Parthenon

The Parthenon began being built in 447 BC by Phidias, a famous Greek sculptor who directed the works. He was mainly responsible for the general adornment and the sculptures while the architects of the monument were Iktinos and Callicrates.

What was the Purpose of the Parthenon? It was a double temple with two unconnected principal interior spaces build similar to the old Parthenon that preceded this one.

Even in Parthenon Pictures you will notice how impressive this building is. Hundreds of tourists visit Greece every year just to see this miracle of arrchitecture still standing on the Acropolis hill after all these years.
