Life as a Party Caterer

Party catering clients are people that are looking to celebrate a special occasion, such as a wedding, 50th anniversary or sweet sixteen party, and hire a caterer to make sure the food is perfect.

While the obvious tasks for a party catering business is food preparation and serving the meal, there are often together responsibilities involved such as event planning, on-site coordinator or making arrangements for decorations, party theme items or room set ups.

But as the caterer, your main responsibility is to make sure the food is exquisite. Food served at an event is always a hot topic, so when someone ask "how was the food?' you want both your client and their guests to rave about the presentation, quality and the taste of their meal.

Party Catering: It's All About Your Clients

When designing a menu, ask clients about their preferences and ideas. After all, it is their event! Once you have an idea what your client is thinking about, then it's time for your creativity and expertise to shine. Offer creative suggestions that will make your client happy and add your unique touch to the menu and service.

In your initial contact with a potential client, it is very important to gather information client's tastes, preferences and expectations. Discuss the type of event they hosting and also ask about the guest of honor's hobbies, background and goals.

No matter the size of the event, the initial sales process is the same. First, the client will contact you about your catering service. This is you opportunity to gather the details you will need to create a unique event with their taste in mind. After you and your client have reached a verbal agreement, you will write a proposal which outlines the menu, pricing and any other services or details you will include in their event such as decorations or party theme.

Keeping Your Clients Happy

Next you will meet to discuss your proposal, get client feedback and then make any necessary changes. Once the two of you are in agreement as to the scope and pricing, the client will sign a contract and leave a deposit. The final step is for you to shine and to create and deliver your catering services as outlined in the catering contract. At the end of the event, final payment is due.
