Easy Party Recipes
We love party snacks! Who doesn't? A simple mouth-sized bite is all you need! I got tired of baking cookies and brownies as 'after school snacks" for the kids so I came up with appetizer recipes instead!
These savory snacks have won over the kids and take the edge off enough for homework to get done while their Mom cooks dinner. The best part is they are easy to make! The kids love helping in the kitchen, it encourages them to try new things!
Ham 'N Cheese Pinwheels
- Serves: Makes 16 Pinwheels
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 30 Minutes
There are no specific rules when it comes to these pinwheels. If you don't have puff pastry you can use crescent roll dough instead, just make sure you seal the seems when you roll it out.
If you do use the crescent roll dough don't cut the pinwheels ahead of the baking.. Score the top, brush with an egg wash to help it become golden brown.
Some of the grandkids don't like mustard and the others don't like mayo. So I usually just add cheese and ham and let them dip into their preference. When I make them for guests I use the Dijon mustard.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen puff pastry sheet thaw according to package directions (you can use crescent roll dough instead)
- 1 1/2 cup shredded cheese (Your favorite will do)
- 1 package thinly sliced cooked ham
- 1 tsp Dijon Mustard or Mayonnaise
Instructions
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Prepare 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. On a lightly floured surface, unfold puff pastry sheet. Using a rolling pin, roll sheet into 14×11-inch rectangle. Spread mustard (you can use mayonnaise if preferred) over puff pastry, leaving a 1 1/2 -inch border. Sprinkle with cheese then top with ham slices. Starting with a short side, roll rectangle up in a spiral. Lightly moisten edge with water using a pastry brush, then pinch to seal seam. Slice pastry roll into sixteen 1 1/2-inch slices. Place pinwheels, cut sides down, on baking sheets. Bake for 15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm.
Tricks Of The Trade
Wagon Wheel Pizza
- Serves: 8 Servings
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 40 Minutes
This pizza is one of the kids favorites! I used to take a large loaf of French bread and cut in half, then stuff with this filling and top with cheese to bake. (Actually I still do, my hubby loves it that way better)
Around the holidays I make a fruit filled pastry wreath, last year Anthony thought the strawberry pastry looked like pizza. So we decided to try and make one.. this is how our "Taco Pizza" became "Wagon Wheel Pizza".
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- 1 can (15.5-ounce) black beans rinsed and drained
- 8 ounces tomato sauce (roasted garlic)
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
- 1 can (13.8-ounce) refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar/Jack cheese blend
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a large skillet, brown meat over medium heat, break it up. Drain off fat. Add onions and peppers, beans, tomato sauce, and seasoning. Cook over medium heat for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to fit a 15-inch round pizza pan. Place dough on pizza pan. Spoon filling around edge of dough. Top with cheese. Begin from the center of the dough making 8 cuts, each will end at the start of the filling. This will create 8 triangles. Gently lift each triangle over the filling and tuck the tip under the edge of the dough.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
Nanitos!
It's Nacho Ordinary Chip!
- Serves: 8 Servings
- Prep Time: Cook Each Batch 5 Minutes
- Total Time: 10 Minutes
All I had one day was plain old tortilla chips. So I went to the cabinet and found some tex-mex chilli seasoning and we developed our own Nanitos!
Ingredients
- 1 bag tortilla chips
- 1 Packet Tex-Mex Seasoning
- Nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Spread a layer of chips on a baking sheet (you will want to work in batches) Very lightly coat with nonstick spray. Lightly sprinkle with chili seasoning. Bake for 5 minutes. Repeat until all chips are baked. Serve with salsa or Yucamole!
Yucamole!
It's Really Guacamole

I didn't used to like Guacamole but the kids have turned me around. I found out I didn't like the cilantro, so now I just leave that out! Even though I do like it.. I still tease the kids and call it Nana's Yucamole!
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado peeled and mash (keep seed)
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped yellow onion
- 1 roma tomato finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
In a small mixing bowl, combine the avocado with the onion, garlic, tomato, lime juice, and salt and mash with the back of a fork until mostly smooth.
Serve immediately, or cover with plastic wrap (place seed in the guacamole to keep it fresh) and refrigerate.
