Party Decoration Ideas

I came from a home that was filled with Christmas decorations from the middle of November to January 1st. My mum loved Christmas and everything that went with the holidays. When my kids were younger I was anxious to get everything up and on display early so they could enjoy the season longer. Now that they are teenagers I start getting the house decorated the first week of December.

I still have some of the decorations that we had when the boys were very young even though we have moved a few times since then. They still comment and reminisce when they see them. I think it is important to keep a few treasured pieces but update your decorations often. Get rid of the slightly broken or tacky dated stuff. There are so many great things out there that are reasonably priced that will shake up your decorating skills and give your home a fresh look.

I love garland, especially on a mantle with candles placed throughout. The new battery powered candles are so real looking, I love that! And also make for a safe decoration. I also weave garland up a banister with mini Christmas lights intertwined. Wrapping boxes in bright paper with big ribbons or bows and putting them around the house is a cheap and cheerful way to bring colour and the holiday spirit to any room. You can hang twinkle lights and small balls on indoor plants for that romantic feel when the sun goes down. Whatever you do don't forget your front door. There is nothing that says Happy Holidays and welcome more than a beautiful wreath. There are also seasonal door mats if you are so inclined.

Use your imagination and have fun with your Christmas decorating. It is gone before we know it so do what you can to create a warm festive atmosphere that the family will enjoy.
