1. If it's a birthday party downplay the importance of presents to the birthday child.

2. Have a wrapped gift for each guest. When the birthday boy or girl opens a present, a guest does too.

3. Make food simple and easy to eat with little fingers. Miniature hot dogs, hamburgers, mac & cheese in little cups are all good ideas and easy to prepare.

4. Keep the party short. Even with older children attention spans wander.

5. Have a new activity every 10 minutes. Games, eating, opening presents, another game, a craft and it's nearly time to go home.

6. Have one adult or older child (at least 10 years old) for every three guests. Every child will be supervised.

7. If the children are younger than 4 years old, ask that a parent stay for the party.
