General Party Planning tips to help on your way

Parties are a lot of fun, as long as you are one of the invites. But if you're the host, that's another story. Food, drinks, lights, decorations, invitations are all going to give you a headache. Don't panic, just take it one at a time; it is important to plan ahead and keep organized. Here are some general and very useful tips that will help you on any kind of party, may it be a Christmas one, birthday or barbeque.

Try to announce the invites early in time, so they can make time in their busy schedules. Most of the time, not everyone invited will attend, but it makes a big difference. Also, giving out written invites is a good idea, to make known party details, theme, attire, place, date and time.

Food - oh, yes, food. Rule of thumb: always have tons of food at your party, especially during holidays as people eat a lot more, because they quit their diets during this time.
Don't serve food if it is messy to eat, especially if it's going to be eaten while standing and mingling. Try to offer them in large quantities, and forget the vegetarians!

Consider what forms of amusements you'll be offering at your party. (here are some ideas, if budget allows: strolling musicians, karaoke, fortune tellers).

Consider having accommodations for the smokers. If the venue for the party is a non-smoking household, inform them.

Lights and decorations are important to set the mood of the party, but don't neglect the little things like scents, sounds and sights in the venue to blend with the atmosphere. Consider having scented candles and some good music playing in the background.

Every party is different and unique. Even if it's a casual party or a wedding, these tips might prove useful in your planning process. But the most important tip is think creatively and enjoy partying!
