Animal Print Pashmina Shawls
The History of Pashmina
Pashmina shawls were originally handspun, woven and embroided in Kashmir and made from fine cashmere fiber. Pashmina or cashmere shawls have been manufactured in Kashmir and Nepal for thousands of years. The test for a quality pashmina is warmth and feel.Pashmina is a very soft, light wool made from the hair around a goat's neck. This wool is often used to make shawls and wraps because of the way they wrap and drape. The goat sheds its winter coat every spring. A goat can shed approximately 3-8 ounces of the fiber. To meet the demands of cashmere lovers, the goats are now commercially reared. During spring or molting season the goats shed this inner wool, which re-grows in winter. The inner wool is collected and spun to produce cashmere. The quality of the cashmere produced in the Gobi Desert is just as high as that produced in the Himalayas, while the costs are less.
Beaded Pashmina Shawls
Pashmina Products
During the mid 1990s when pashmina shawls gained in fashion prominence, some merchants marketed the line rather questionably. Cashmere used for pashmina shawls was claimed to be of a superior quality, when in fact it was really due to the enhanced sheen and softness that the fabric had. During this time, some companies marketed the man-made fabric viscose as pashmina.Generally the size for a scarf is 12" x 60" and wrap or stole is 36" x 80".
Pashmina is a type of wool and the 100% pure pashmina is a rather gauzy, open weave since the fiber cannot tolerate high tension. The most popular fabric is a 70% pashmina/30% silk blend. This blend is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen, drapes nicely and is still quite soft and lightweight. You will also find pashmina and silk blended 50/50 to make it more affordable.
A pashmina shawl can range in cost from as little as $35 for a pure pashmina shawl up to thousands of dollars for a super high-quality pure pashmina shawl.

Caring for Your Pashmina Boutique Shawl, Wrap or Scarf
Your pashmina or cashmere shawl, wrap, scarf and accessories are a valued possession that can give you years of wonderful service and memories. They can last for a lifetime with the proper care. Over time, you will notice a softer, more luxurious feel.Dry Cleaning Your Pashmina Boutique Accessory
Professional dry cleaning is recommended for both pashminas and cashmeres.
Hand Washing Your Pashmina Boutique Accessory
Hand washing can be done providing you carefully follow the label instructions that come with your accessory or garment. If you do decide to hand wash, do so before the first wearing to make sure any dyes do not bleed.
Hand wash in cold or lukewarm water only. Add a little gentle soap such as Woolite, baby shampoo or wool mix detergent to the cold/lukewarm water before adding your pashmina or cashmere. Any soap added, should be completely dissolved before adding your accessory or garment. Do not use or add any type of bleach or bleach for colored fabrics.
Wash very gently by hand being careful with fringe, tassels, embroidery or beading. Let soak for about 10-15 minutes. If there should be a stain on your pashmina or cashmere, do not scrub with soap since this will permanently damage the area and cause the fabric to look matted and not to fluff-up.
Rinse thoroughly with cold water. Do not wring dry. Your pashmina or cashmere can be rolled in a towel to press out the excess water. If needed, gently stretch back into its original shape. Try to avoid creasing.
Air dry by laying flat. Never put your pashmina or cashmere in a tumble dryer.
When dry, iron on a flat surface. Place a piece of paper or thin cloth on top of your cashmere or pashmina and use a warm iron. You can also steam press to remove any creases.
If you wish to give your pashmina or cashmere a more plush soft texture, use a very soft brush to raise up the nap of the fabric.
Storage Care For Your Pashmina Boutique Accessory
When storing your pashmina or cashmere, fold it in tissue paper or a plastic cover to protect it from moisture. Avoid storing in attics and on open shelves. Store away from any dampness or direct sunlight. Protect from moths and spills.

The History of Cashmere
Cashmere wool usually just goes by the name of cashmere and is sometimes known as Pashmina. The fiber is obtained from the Cashmere goat. The word "cashmere" derives from an archaic spelling of Kashmir.Cashmere is collected during the spring moulting season when the goats naturally shed their winter coat. In the Northern Hemisphere, the goats moult over a period beginning as early as March and as late as May.
The goats produce a double fleece consisting of a fine soft undercoat or underdown of hair mingled with a straighter and much coarser outer coating of hair called guard hair. In some regions, the mixed mass of down and coarse hair is removed by hand with a coarse comb that pulls tufts of fiber from the animal as the comb is raked through the fleece. The collected fiber then has a higher yield of pure cashmere after the fiber has been washed and dehaired. In America, the most popular method is combing. The process can take up to two weeks but with a trained eye for when the fiber is releasing, sometimes it is possible to comb the fibers out in about a week.
After the coarse and fine hairs are separated, the cashmere is then ready to be dyed and converted to yarn, fabrics or garments. The original undyed or natural colors of cashmere wool comes in various shades of gray, brown and white.
Cashmere wool is fine in texture. It is also strong, lightweight and soft when it is made into garments. Cashmere is extremely warm to wear, much warmer than the equivalent weight in sheep's wool.
