Passion for Area Rugs

Ranked #62,005 in Entertainment, #840,723 overall

If you truly love something, the first thing you want to do is write a poem about it. That's how I feel about area rugs. For over two decades I fought the impulse to put my passion for area rugs on the printed page in the form of poetry. Finally, those cursed days are over. Now that I have these area rug poems out of my system, I finally feel at peace knowing I've given area rugs the tribute they deserve.

Absent Area Rug

Sonnet

Area rug on hardwood floor did you
Ere I awoke leave flowers on my bed?
Was it a dream area rug, not you
Left twixt my lips the tears rug shed?

No, twas an amorous armoire perhaps
You tricksy wooden philanderer you!
Where area rug is are there no maps
Were it I was an area rug too!

Remember me, absent area rug
The days spent laid on purple bristles thick
A bibliophile for thy shaggy drug
My area rug's soft, smooth skin so slick

Since area rug it has run astray
Twas to but a dream I awoke today

Warm in Cuernavaca

Modernist

Shaggy sheen
Or matted with golden arches of street signs and luggage twirls
Area rug, yes?
Me too, but not only...didn't you see?
I mean no...
Area rug
I mean no...
Area rug!
Twirling, swirling ... white-lined warm in Cuernavaca
I mean yes...
Area rug

To My Own Mother

Triolet

Nothing is better than area rugs
I prefer them to any other
I prefer them to gold and stars and bugs
I prefer them to my own mother
I'd buy one from dangerous thugs
I'll buy one for my brother
Nothing is better than area rugs
I prefer them to any other

Inflating a Rug

Limerick

There was an old man with a with a tune
That he whistled from morning till noon
The old man then clips
An area rug to his lips
Now the area rug's a balloon
