Travel Threads: My Patch Jacket

Ranked #10,353 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #140,530 overall

A Childhood Scrapbook

Here's a fun way to take an armchair trip around the world -- or at least around my world!

It's been about twenty years since I last put on this old windbreaker, which I wore into my late teens in the late 1980s. I was never a Girl Scout, but I collected patches wherever my family travelled. So this jacket has a lot of memories sewn onto it. I took it with my to my undergraduate college interview as a conversation piece.

I'd like to share with you my "travel threads" -- a scrapbook of places I've visited and things I care about, with anecdotes, pictures and video clips, and recommended links and books on each topic. Since I have so many patches, I've grouped them on different lenses by theme.

Comments? Did you enjoy this lens? Or are you bored to tears? Feel free to drop a note!

Note: I have stopped accepting "Cool lens! Visit my URL [link]!" comments; sorry! I don't mind people sharing related links, but I'm tired of being used simply as a billboard for random ads.

I like this is a great idea for a travel lens. You really could directional with this, and big. Haven't done a lot of traveling myself, but I sure would enjoy it if I could. Keep meaning to look for a man, but Squidoo takes all my time.

OMG, this is a bit of a "travel teaser" lens my dear -- you have piqued my interest ... now tell me more! I could see page breaked pages to tantalize with the different destinations! I think such a travel jacket is such a great idea! Perhaps the next traveling squid project should employ a JACKET that everybody sews on a patch!!!! How about that idea???

Hey, you! Good to see you surfacing!
I've nearly deleted these lenses many times because you're right --they need more. I confess they were part of my last-minute rush to make Giant a few years ago. I've got so many lenses I need to write (finish Greece Odyssey!) but you're right, I should remember to work on these, some rainy day!

Wait, it never rains here. Hm.

Nice lens, 5 stars. Your jacket looks to me like the inspiration for a "Traveling Pants" type of novel! Thanks for applying to the Collector Clubs group, but our group is specifically for lenses dedicated to collecting and helping others build their collections. Best of luck to you!

I casted my vote for Great Britian, I hope to visit there some day. Nice five star lens, Thanks!

My Favorite Binoculars

I take these when I travel

Nikon 8220 Trailblazer 8 X 42mm All Terrain Binoculars

Amazon Price: $114.95 (as of 06/03/2012)Buy Now

I got these binoculars to bring to baseball games because I sit in the nosebleed seats, but they turned out to be quite powerful little binoculars. Check the Amazon listing. Officially, they're $200+, but you can often get them at half price on Amazon or through third party sellers. I got mine for less than $100 on Amazon!

They're great for birdwatching and are also good little stargazer binoculars. I can see the four biggest moons of Jupiter with them.
