The Safety Benefits of Patio Lighting

Patio Lighting - Safety Benefits

While most people think of the visual appeal that patio lighting can add to their home, lighting is also a very good deterrent to unlawful and potential harmful entry.

Lighting should be placed in the vicinity of each entry way to your home, whether it is a much used access or not. Large windows or sliding glass doors, garage doors, and washroom windows and doors are all places where a person seeking unlawful access to your home may enter. It is statistically proven that well lit homes with lights at all access points and motion lighting placed in dark areas of the home are much less likely to get burgled.

Visual appeal and added value to your home are great reasons for patio lighting, however, don't forget the safety factor, too.

Poolside Patio Lighting - Safety and Visual Appeal

Patio Lighting - Poolside

While patio lighting adds such a warm and inviting look to an outside area, we often overlook how much lighting is used for safety purposes.

Sensor lighting that comes on when movement occurs in a specific area certainly can act as a deterrent to those with ill intent on their minds. Security systems, dogs, and LIGHTING are the 3 most common factors taken into consideration when burglars look into an area of homes to break into. They will always go to homes that don't have deterrents before even considering those that do.

So does that make you think of your lighting needs just a bit differently?

Our Neighborhood Watch officer recommends good patio lighting, especially sensor lights that are known to deter thieves. It's nice to have a combination of both. Strings lights are so fun!

People tend to think of patio lighting as just for visual appeal, they forget about safety. Nicely written.
