My art work is primarily based on my poetry and lives experiences. Some of my lives experiences have include attending a Christian church for 18 years.I follow some of the First Nations spiritual traditions which has also inspired me.

Tea Tipping Friend

This piece titled "Tea Tipping Friend" came from a poem I wrote for a friend. She and I used to spend a lot of time chatting over a nice hot cup of tea. We both had small children and enjoyed all the tea time we could muster. She and her boys went to visit her mother in law for several months. I really missed her visits while she was gone. I wrote this poem that inspired this painting for her.

Your Promises

I spent 18 years attending a Christian church. During this time I wrote many inspirational poems This painting was inspired by a poem called " Your Promises." I had heard many poems and songs about God's promises and how they were easily found in good times. I thought it would be a good idea to write a poem telling how God's promises were easily found in bad times as well as good times. God's promises in the poem are flowers you can pick and put in your hair.

Brushing Off With Cedar

I was taught that every Aboriginal territory has it's own scared medicine. I live in the Sto:lo territory. Cedar is the scared medicine for the Sto:lo people. Cedar is scared is used for many thing including making shelter and clothing. Cedar is also used for getting rid of bad energy. A cedar branch is dipped in water. Then a person is then brushed off with the cedar. This brushes off all the negative energy.

Dad's Chair

Does your dad have a favorite chair that nobody is allowed to sit in but him? My dad did. I was his chair and nobody sat there but him. We would sometimes sneak in the chair and be there when he wanted to sit down but he always shooed us out. I wrote the poem, "Dad's Chair" after my dad passed away. The painting is of me as an adult looking at Dad's chair remembering me as a child playing behind my dad's chair.

The Bay Watcher

This painting was inspired by a poem I wrote called "The Bay Watcher" It's a simple poem about a person standing looking at the bay thinking about their life. The person was thinking about all the good times and the bad. They made peace with the past as the memories flew away like seagulls.

In Memory Of Granddad.

My Grandparents lived in Victoria BC. They had a house right on the ocean. My granddad used to take his boat out to feed the seagulls. I can remember him telling us that the seagulls came and ate right out of his hand. I painted this painting in his memory.

Grandma Mary

Grandma Mary as she was called by everyone that loved her was a this most beautiful awesome woman. She was a very powerful native elder that worked tirelessly for her community. Her Native name was Skemcis which translated means "Grizzly Bear". This painting is of her, her dog Lucky who she rescued from the dog pound and her tepee.I painted a grizzly bear on her tepee to represent Grandma's Grizzly Bear spirit .Sadly Grandma Mary passed away in May of 2007. She is greatly missed.

A Conversation

This is my latest painting. It's called "A Conversation" Grandma Mary gave me a little teddy bear. She told me to put it in my car so I would know that Skemcis, which was her spirit name, was always watching over me. The conversation with the buffalo is me telling the buffalo about the bear and what Grandma Mary said about her watching over me and telling the buffalo that she's passed away asking now what that she's gone.
