Who is Patricia Sanders

I am a poet, author, mother, reiki master and I am also a CNA, HHA, RNA(nursing field). I have three daughters and a stepson that are all teenagers at this time.

We all live in Oregon. I was born in southern California. I grew up near the beach, mountains and Disneyland which was pretty cool. I went to Newport Harbor High in Newport Beach. Before that I went to a private Lutheran School for Kindergarten through 8th grade. I am not Lutheran now though I was baptized and confirmed into the church. I still carry all of that religious foundation with me, but I widened my spiritual life to metaphysics as a teenager feeling that it rang true for me. I still keep within my embrace the religion I learned as a child and I believe it gave me a strong foundation in my spiritual life.

Me and my girls in 2001

More about me

I am an only child and started writing stories around the age of 10, by the age of 12 I began writing poetry. I have no idea what made me write poetry. I don't remember being exposed to it, it just started coming out of imagination at that age.

I played the clarinet from ages 8 to 13. My friend and I taught ourselves the Star Wars theme as soon as we learned to use our clarinets and ended up doing a duet at our first band performance.
I also did gymnastics since age 8 which I loved doing and did until I was pregnant with my oldest daughter at age 20.

I grew up in a middle class family with my mom and step dad for most of my childhood. We traveled alot to places like Mexico and Catalina Island, Monterrey, a trip around the United States, a trip up the Coast of California. My dad loved the baseball team the Angels and had season tickets to their games so I spent alot of time at their games.
He died in 2001, before the Angels won the World Series, but he would have loved that.

I married my first husband at age 20 and had three girls with him and nine years of marriage.

I started doing reiki when I was 24. I went to a group that was comprised of women and was spiritual in nature with this womanKathryn Leeman. She taught us alot, spiritually speaking. I also went to her Satsang group which was a meditation group.

I have a number of poetry books published which are available at amazon, barnes and noble.com and other places.

Grandmother, Me and My mom

What colors us

Photobucket

I believe our life colors us by what we have been through. I have not had what I would call an easy life.

My childhood had things in it I won't mention.

In my adulthood I have known grief too many times.

My stepdad died when I was 29 in 1999. I lost a baby I was pregnant with at that time a month before his death. A month after his death I got divorced from my first husband.

In 2001 my dad died of a heart attack. I felt alone in the world after losing both of my fathers, but I do still have my mother who does not live near me at this time.

I have been married to what is now my third husband and the heartbreak of divorce is not easy for me.
I also went through bad marriages.

So, all those things have colored who I am.

This husband I am with now has had two heart attacks and one 5 way bypass open heart surgery. That was very emotional for me as well.

I have a strong connection to God which helps me through my life which is pretty nice now.

My husband and I live in a small town in Oregon where we have two dogs, three chickens and a garden he began growing recently.

The picture accompaning this article is of me and my dad dancing at my first wedding. I am glad that I got to have that experience before he died.

Vacations

As a child I was blessed to have parents who liked to go on vacations. The picture is from one of the many trips with my mom, stepdad and sometimes friend down to Baja California or Mexico. We would stay on the beach, ride the horses there and eat lobster for $10 a lobster at a small home/restaurant on a dirt road.

When I was very young my Granded flew airplanes and so I used to fly in them. I remember at age 4 sitting on my Grandmother's lap(picture of her is above) while we flew up to Northern California. My grandad let go of the wheel and made me believe i was flying the airplane. I was so scared because I knew I could not fly an airplane at my young age. I tried to explain this to him in my small, scared emotional voice. (He was not really having me fly the plane, but I thought he had because he said do)

I experienced the money they had, the poverty of me and my mother alone for 5 years and struggling and landed somewhere in middle class, at least in my childhood.

I was blessed and still am by what I believe is the best Grandmother in the world whom I love dearly.
She was very good to me and my cousins and I spent alot of time with her growing up including a number of vacations from riding three wheelers in Calico Desert to going to their cabin in Flagstaff, Arizona to going water skiing in Lake Powell.

As an adult my favorite vacation was a trip to Kauai my husband took me on when we were first together. I would love to live in Hawaii. It feels like home to me. We both still miss it.

I write poetry

Some of my poetry

Endless Beauty

Dream
Into being

Happiness
Of a garden
Planted with seeds
Of joy

Growing into
Full blooms
Of peaceful contentment

Blossoming
Into light
Filled of

Endless beauty

We Began

Many tides
Rolling into my heart
Fingers like bows
Take their aim
Sharp as the sky
On a cold winter's day
I will give you
All the sunrise
Has to offer
Blue skies
Calling me again
Lift the heaviness
From your hands
With a sweet smile
Tell time
It has no reason
To worry
We began
With always

Joy's Birth

I dreamt

I gave birth

To joy

And I fed her

As she grew

Into her fullness

Her smile

Opened hearts

Her presence

Inspired a world

That had forgotten

She existed

She taught many

As she aged

Showing them

That beauty

And love

Peace and happiness

Did not need to be searched for

Or bought

But lived in their own hearts

Where they touched

God's grace
