After many years of having a more quiet movie career, he made a great appearance as a sleazy motivational speaker in the cult movie Donnie Darko, released in 2001. Sadly he announced that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2008. However, while receiving treatment, he went on to star in the hit cable tv show The Beast.
Patrick Swayze passed away on September 14, 2009 at the age of 57.

Patrick Wayne Swayze (; August 18, 1952 - September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer and singer-songwriter. He was best-known for his roles as romantic leading men in the films Dirty Dancing and Ghost and as Orry Main in the North and South television miniseries. He was named by People magazine as its "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1991.

Okay, so this is my "guilty pleasure" Swayze movie, the sort of thing you really hope is on cable tv on a night you can't sleep or when you're home with the flu. Patrick plays Bodhi, a surf guru who moonlights as a bank robber to fund his ocean-oriented summers. The action is pretty good and Patrick even did his own sky-diving.
