Patrik Antonius - Poker Superstar

Patrik Antonius is known as the "Brad Pitt" of poker, but don't let his soft-spoken words and good looks fool you. Patrik Antonius is as killer a shark as there has ever been in the history of poker. He makes the shark in the movie 'Jaws' look like a wimp. Antonius is well documented as one of the biggest winners ever online, having won millions of dollars playing in the biggest games. If anyone can help your game, it is this guy.

Patrik is from Finland, but resides in Monte Carlo permanently. He can be ogled around Vegas playing in the nosebleed cash games or driving balls out on the links. He is known as one of the best heads-up players in the world, and isn't scared to mix it up with the other heads-up specialists. He has been featured on 'High Stakes Poker' over the course of a few seasons and was even involved in the second biggest pot ever on the show.

Online poker is a great way to have fun, meet new people, and maybe win some extra cash

This avid golfer and cash game pro is also no stranger to the tournament scene. In 2005, Patrik started his tournament career with an incredible run to finish the year. He took down the Ladbrokes Scandinavian Poker Championships, finished 3rd in the PokerStars.net EPT Barcelona event, and he improved on that result at the EPT Baden, taking down his first EPT title. Shortly after during the WPT Bellagio, Patrik won over $1,000,000 when he finished in second place. He lost a horrible suck-out against him heads-up that cost him the title. Since 2005, Antonius has 9 WSOP cashes and over a dozen other cashes in WPT and other high buy-in tournaments around the world.

Patrik is extremely excited the poker strategy video site on pokernews.com and is committed to making it the best he can. Patrik said recently, "In my videos, I am going to analyze my play and explain all the secrets that have helped me win millions of dollars online. I am also excited to see how my game will improve while teaching our members." Antonius will be discussing strategy at varying levels, so you won't need a 7 figure bankroll to get some great insight from this amazing poker player.

Patrik Antonius is one of the most widely recognized players in poker today, and with a record like his, its no wonder. Since taking up poker as a profession in 2002, he's amassed almost $3 million as a result of his skill and aggressive style. While Patrik is clearly a world-class professional, there's more to life for him than just poker. His competitive streak extends well beyond the game - he's still a top-notch tennis player and an avid golfer. Patrick has been living in Las Vegas since January of 2006 with his beautiful fiancee Maya and our new baby girl, Mila. Patrick has now signed with Full Tilt Poker. Patrick was born on December 13, 1980 in Helsinki, Finland. When Patrick was 13 he decided he wanted to be a professional tennis player and started to focus only on tennis.

Upon graduating from Helsinki Business College,Patrick served in the Finnish army. Right out of the Army he was ready to start playing professional tennis tournaments. But just before his first professional tournament, he suffered a terrible back injury.

Luckily for him, his passion for poker was almost as strong as tennis, and now that he could not play tennis, he was going to focus on poker.

In the summer of 2005, he got hot on the tournament circuit and went on a run that still puts a smile on my face. In August Patrick won the Ladbrokes Scandinavian Poker Championships, in Stockholm, collecting $66,261.

In September Patrick got 3rd in the EPT Barcelona for $145,000. In October Patrick won the EPT Baden for $343,000. And finally in December Patrick took 2nd in the WPT at the Bellagio for $1,045,000. It was a very exciting time for me and my plan of moving to Las Vegas was in full effect.

While Patrik played poker for years with his friends, it wasn't until he started playing online that he got serious about developing his game. Within just a couple of months, his game improved along with his results. By December 2002, Patrik had amassed $80K and brought his game to the next level.

Shortly after, Patrik moved to the US where he continued to put in hours of play. In addition to building upon a steadily increasing bankroll, he won a satellite entry into a WSOP event before returning home to Finland. He cites both the event and solid advice from seasoned pros as invaluable in his development as a poker player.

In 2005, Patrik lit up the tournament circuit. After cashing in two WPT tournaments, he went deep in three WSOP events, earning a combined total of almost $100K. Not one to let the cards get cold, he followed this up with impressive back-to-back performances on the EPT circuit. He took third in the Main Event in Barcelona for $145K before going on to win the EPT Baden classic for more than $340K. True to form, Patrik finished the year with his biggest cash to date. He took second place in the WPT Five Diamond Classic, earning over $1 million.

Since that time Patrik's steadily built on an already impressive record, continuing to add both WPT and WSOP cash finishes to his list of accomplishments. Most recently, Patrik made the final table at the first event of the 2008 WSOP. He finished in seventh place, earning $124K.

We are pleased to congratulate Patrik and Maya Antonius on the birth of their first baby.

If you are wondering why Patrik Antonius has been absent from the high limit tables on Full Tilt Poker, this is why.

Although the baby is only a few days old, he has already mastered the art of defending his big blind, and is working up a stack at the lower limit tables on Full Tilt Poker, so that he can take on the likes of sbrugby and Phil Ivey at Full Tilt Poker.

The baby has already been blessed with his parents good looks, and will be born into a family with money. Now, the kid is also blessed with the "Luck of the Antonius", it will be a truly blessed baby indeed.

    Congrats to the parents!
