It's true. Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and might only have weeks to live. Patrick Swayze has has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, his publicist confirmed on Wednesday, March 5th, but contrary to published reports, his publicist told ABCNEWS.com that he is not expected to die from the disease within 5 weeks.
So incredibly, heartbreakingly sad.
According to ABC News, "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," Swayze's physician, Dr. George Fisher said in a statement released by the actor's publicist. "All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic." read more ...

Pancreatic cancer is notoriously difficult to treat. One of the reasons for the difficulty in treatment is that a sufferer may only experience symptoms very late. It sometimes only diagnosed in the late stages.
The average life expectancy of someone diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas is six to nine months, with only 4 percent of patients living more than five years.

Rumors began circulating that well-known Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and may have only five weeks to live.
The star had been covertly going for treatment at Stanford's Cancer Center in Palo Alto, California since January. The story was first published by the National Enquirer; no official word has been released as to whether the story is true or not.
It's hard to believe it's been 21 years since Swayze grabbed Jennifer Grey, dipped her backwards and danced his way into our hearts. And who can forget the way he trailed his fingers down her side with those naughty, bad-boy lips twitching into a smile?

Patrick and wife Lisa Niemi (who are both pilots) have been making a lot of trips to Palo Alto's airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center.
Swayze has reportedly lost more than 9kg in the last few weeks, and is believed to be surviving solely on a liquid diet. Sufferers of pancreatic cancer typically have a survival rate of less than 5 per cent.
Swayze first shot to fame starring as bad boy Johnny Castle in the hit 1987 movie Dirty Dancing before going on to star in a host of hit films including Ghost and Point Break. His mother is choreographer Patsy Swayze.
A&E recently completed a pilot with Patrick Swayze called The Beast, which is in contention to become one of the new drama series on the network.

For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University's prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.
Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi - who both have pilot's licenses - have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto's airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor has received outpatient treatment.
He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for - and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.
"He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure," said an insider.
The man who danced into the hearts of audiences worldwide in the 1980s in Dirty Dancing and then broke them in the poignant love story Ghost in the early '90s has lost more than 20 pounds in the past few weeks and is restricted to a liquid diet because he has trouble keeping down solid food, added the insider.
