Real Patriots Don't Need An Act

What is patriotism? Is it just a pose that people can take, putting their hands on their hearts as they recite an oath by rote? Is anyone who wraps themselves in the flag and says "I love the USA!" a patriot?No, being a true American patriot takes something a great deal more. In a democracy such as ours, being a patriot requires standing against the government and against programs of nationalist propaganda when they're being used to subvert freedom.
In these times, being a real patriot requires taking a stand against the Patriot Act, a law that takes on an appearance of patriotism even as it attacks the fundamental freedoms established by the Constitution of the United States of America.
Don't just take on a posture of patriotism. Do the real thing. After all, real patriots don't need an act.
