The Beautiful and Timeless Patsy Cline

Patsy Cline is one of my favorite female vocalists of all time yet her look and sound are locked in time forever.

She will always be one of country music's most memorable artists

Patsy Cline

Patsy Cline (b. Virginia Patterson Hensley September 8, 1932 ? March 5, 1963) was an American country music singer who enjoyed pop music crossover success during the era of the Nashville Sound in the early 1960s. Since her death at age 30 in a 1963 plane crash at the height of her career, she has been considered one of the most influential, successful, revered, and acclaimed female vocalists of the 20th century . The story of her life and career has been the subject of numerous books, movies, documentaries, articles and stage plays.

Cline was best known for her rich tone and emotionally expressive voice, which, along with her role as a mover and shaker in the country music industry, has been cited and praised as an inspiration by many vocalists of various music genres .

Posthumously, millions of her albums have been sold over the past 45 years and she has been given numerous awards, which has given her an iconic status similar to that of music legends Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Only ten years after her death, she became the first female solo artist inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2001, she was voted by artists and members of the Country Music industry as #1 on CMT's television special of the 40 Greatest Women of Country Music of all time, and in 1999 she was voted #11 on VH1's special The 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll of all time by members and artists of the rock industry. According to her 1973 Country Music Hall of Fame plaque, "Her heritage of timeless recordings is testimony to her artistic capacity." Among those hits are "Walkin' After Midnight", "I Fall to Pieces", "She's Got You", "Crazy", and "Sweet Dreams".

As another Mothers Day approaches, a very special fond memory brings a mixture of happiness and meloncholy within my heart. This coming weekend has been 10yrs. since I had a dream come true. I had the Honors of meeting the worlds Best Female Country singer that ever lived "Mrs. Patsy Cline's" mother "Mrs. Hilda Hensley". I would first like to say what a pillar of strength she was! She was the real definition of a real woman / mother. Her children met the world to her and she worked hard and tried her best to keep things together inspite of all she endured. Any mother that bears those qualities should be commended.
The worse thing that no mother should ever have to experience that Mrs. Hilda did, is the loss of her child! She lived alot of years with that sting. I can't say her pain was worse than other mothers that have experienced the same tragedy, but losing a child that was so renowned, known to all around the world and met so much to others had to have different difficulties and what I mean is, everywhere Hilda turned there was that constant reminder, a picture, a song, a movie, and impersonater's, etc... Patsy was just as well known as Elvis and her stardom continues to grow.

In my perception I just thought it might have been harder to grieve in the midst of that whirlwind. Meeting Hilda meant a lot to me personally and musically. She was such a talent in her own right! She made such cool lookin' Cow Girl dresses and other fine pieces of clothing. I look forward to seeing those on display one day. Mrs. Patsy had a huge influence on my music career as I believe she has with just about every female singer across the board. She sang with such conviction, with every fiber of her soul and knew the right treament for the song. She studied her art and worked hard to hone her craft.

Personally, I think she was totally in touch with her feelings and others and applied it in her art. She wasn't afraid of feeling or being her self. She didn't refrain from nothing. She was doing things back then that some women are still afraid to do today. The most admirable characteristic attributes I liked about Patsy was her realness, she wasn't plastic, she wasn't a cookie cutter she was original, she was for the underdog, she took no lip, she had backbone, she was raw to the bone, BUT the most important was, she loved her children! She still knew the meaning of motherhood and womanhood. She was a GREAT WOMAN/MOTHER!

I finally met Hilda on my 3rd trip to Winchester,VA. from my home of Greenbelt, MD... I stopped by her house in hopes of meeting her. I ended up having a wonderful 3hr. visit with her. It was everything I thought it would be. You know that feeling you get sometimes when you meet someone and you feel as though you've known them a lifetime, that's what I felt. Before our visit wrapped she had invited me to a function in tribute to Patsy she has each year in Winchester around Patsy's birthday Sept. 8th... Oh what honors I felt! She took my contact info. but had mentioned that she was having some health issues and if it continued she would not be attending the function. Well, I never heard anything from her but me and my husband attended Patsy's grave memorial that Sept.

Patsy's cousin lead the service and had informed us that Hilda was under the weather. In October my husband and I moved to Nashville and after settling my husband called Patsy's widower Charlie Dick and that's when I received the sad news that Mrs. Hilda Hensley had passed on. I was very heart broken but also I knew that she was at her eternal home with sweet Jesus and her precious Patsy. I'm just so very grateful I got the chance and honors of meeting such a very kind loving gentle soul. I miss you very much Hilda & Patsy~~ Your Fan/Friend~~Kimi Dean
