The Lady of The Lady & Sons
"You know it's a good recipe if it starts with a stick of butter."
-from the Paula's Home Cooking episode titled Cajun Cooking.
Paula Ann Groover, better known as Paula Deen (born Paula Ann Hiers on January 19, 1947), is a cook, restaurateur, writer, and TV personality who lives in Savannah, Georgia. She owns The Lady & Sons restaurant in Savannah, and runs it with her sons, Jamie and Bobby. She has also published four cookbooks. She is known for rising from the adversity of divorce and agoraphobia to become a successful businesswoman. -Wikipedia
Sure, everybody remembers the butter. Or her quaint "Southern Ways", but I can tell you - having grown up in the South, Ms. Deen is an example of a true "Belle". Being a "belle" has nothing to do with culture or upbringing. It's pure attitude, gentleness of spirit and true hospitality. Make everyone welcome. If you're from here, you'd understand. If you're not, Ms. Deen is the best example out there of the true south.

Bobby's Goulash- as seen on her TV show!
Serves 6 (unless, as Paula says, Bobby is eating)
2 pounds lean ground beef2 large yellow onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups water
2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
3 bay leaves
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
In a Dutch oven, saute the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Break up the meat while sauteing. Spoon off any grease. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and saute until they are tender, about 5 minutes. Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, House Seasoning, and seasoned salt. Stir well. Place a lid on the pot and allow this to cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Add the elbow macaroni, stir well, return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 30 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the bay leaves, and allow the mixture to sit about 30 minutes more before serving.
Serve with garlic bread and a salad.
House Seasoning:
1 cup salt
1/4 cup pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder
Mix the ingredients together and store in an air-tight container for up to 6 months. Use as a seasoning on meat and when cooking vegetables.

Great lens. Posted September 22, 2008 |
Why did Paula say that a pork butt comes from the butt of the pig. It is actually the shoulder.

Loved your lens on "PaulaDeen". Very informative. Please stop by at my lens Posted September 02, 2008 |
Paula,
My wife and Iare big fans. We love what you bring to the table, good food and humor.
The reason I'm sendiing this to you is because I think you would like to know how your name is being misused.
My wife and I went to a Paula Dean Buffet at Harrahs Casino in Tunica Ms.
The food was not worth having the Paula Dean name on it. They were serving really sour (bad) oysters, the crab legs were days old, the ribs were to tough to eat, and the list goes on. In all, the entire experiance was not what we had in mind. When we left my wife said to me she doesn't undersatnd how someone like yourself would put your name on a place that poorly managed.
I'm in customer service and I just wanted you to know this has left a bad taste in our heart.
