Paul Gilbert was a cool, person as well as a friend when I attended G.I.T. in 1985-1987 in Hollywood California.
He was just forming RACERX with second guitarist/student Bruce Bouliett in 87'. Long story short, G.I.T. also had open counselling with Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Jennifer Batten, Paul Hanson and many others to name a few. So many great memories as well as, a ga-zillion hours put in on the instrument to try and get better. Inspiration was everywhere, and like Paul said, their was an Eddie Van Halen on every block in Hollywood, shreddin' away at the school. Studying with Paul gave me insight into playing with "synchronized" technique, meaning the right hand and left hand MATCHED in time properly, all the notes you would execute.
