- Pav Bhaji is the king of Mumbai street food. It is one of the most favorite street foods of mumbai, catching up fast in the other cities of maharashtrians as also in most of the other metros across the country. The pav (bread) is roasted on the pan with a generous amount of butter and a masala (blend of spices). Served with chopped onions and lemon wedges, pav bhaji is a wholesome dish.
The pav bhaji had its humble origins in the mill culture prevalent in the mumbai of the 70's & the early eighties .the mill workers preferred a quick fix lunch to a regular one to save time & the many innovative food entrepreneurs of the era discovered what today is your favorite dish.
A general recipe for the pav bhaji is mashed potatoes, tomato, onion, capsicum, peas, cauliflower & an assortment of other vegetables with a topping of coriander, lemon adding to the succulence of the pav bhaji. You could dig into a pav bhaji as a snack or a proper lunch or a last minute resort to slake the growling stomach. Rest assured even countries like United Kingdom, us, & a huge chunk of south East Asia have fallen to the charms of the pav bhaji.
