From the lens A Staycation is No Way to Vacation!.

I love to travel so when we have money we do. At other times I love to check out places close to home. In either case it's nice not to spend much money but to talk with the local people, eat in local restaurants and stay at bed and breakfasts.

I left my opinion on the staycation above. Since it didn't show up I wrote it twice. Now I am assuming that it is pending approval. I never heard of it called that. Funny, before I read this we were talking about camping in our backyard this year. Great article. 5*s

Thanks for congratulating me on the top 100 for my Wisconsin lens.

How do you find Paycation resources?

I live in Maine known as "vacationland", so there is a lot of day trips to explore for a life time if one wanted to. Although I'm near the beaches where tons of tourists come, I'd rather be in the country and avoid the crowds. I don't like beaches much. I like a brook and quiet country roads. New Hampshire is just next door and I like traveling there. Now I just need to meet my country and dog loving soul-mate to travel with (or better yet, stay home with).

I MUST escape the brutal MN winters so I'll always be heading south in January and February!!

Staycations are nice but there's something to be said for getting away from it all! 5 stars. Bear hugs, Frankster aka Bearmeister aka Cat-Woman

I'm more of a homebuddy but I love the beach!

Oh No! We actually had a staycation within the past year -- I think it was more stressful than a normal vacation! No staycations for me. We gotta get outta this place ...

We always go on a "staycation" even if in addition to a far-away trip. It's all about finding fun things to do, not about the distance. Nice debate.

Thanks for your input. I noticed the duel does not always work. I reported this problem to Squidoo before.
  • Ramkitten Mar 3, 2009 @ 3:57 pm | delete
Hmm, my duel response seems to have gone *poof*, but basically I said that staying near home sure isn't a BAD thing (we live near the Grand Canyon, and that's an awesome place to spend a lot of time), but we tend to do the long weekend thing in the area and spend longer vacations out of town and usually out of state. I love the adventure of going to far-off places that I've never been, and re-visiting locations I haven't seen in a while. It's fun to say, "Hey, I remember this!" and discover new things about a place at the same time. We hike and camp a lot, so our out-of-area vacations often don't cost all that much anyway.

Thanks for visiting my Aruba lens and good work on this snarky lens of yours. I do love some daily snarkiness.

I do like seeing new places, but I hate to fly, so while I have been lucky enough to visit Latin America and Europe, I hate getting there, and returning!

I love traveling so I go on several exotic trips a year. I also love coming home again.

I like to travel but I like to spend time close to home as well. I usually manage to do both on a regular bases.
    Great lens

Ottawa is full of TONS of interesting things to do so a Staycation here is great. Interesting lens, maybe you could offer examples of what a person might do on staycation!

I enjoy travel and of course I live in a place where many people want to vacation so I am very fortunate. Everyone should be encouraged to enjoy what they have at home but also to broaden their horizons. There are many ways to save money on travel.

I live to travel, but everyone lives somewhere interesting - explore your own back yard too
