It's My PB Loco (but yes, you can have some)

A few weeks ago I was offered a free jar of PB Loco's gourmet peanut butter in exchange for a review. Since I take my reviews seriously, I stocked up that week with everything I like my peanut butter with.

Hooo-doggy! I had no idea what I was getting in to, and as you can see by the picture below, there wasn't much left for celebrating after my "experiments" were over.

Texture And Taste

At first glance, PB Loco peanut butter looks a little runny, but the directions on the jar instruct you to stir it before using. Once stirred, it's a very nice consistency being a bit denser and creamier than the average brand.

It spreads exceptionally well, and when chilled firms up nicely without getting too hard.

You don't initially notice a strong difference between PB Loco's peanut butter and, say, the blue lid variety- but if you try to go back to the blue lid peanut butter you definitely notice a difference. Suddenly, your favorite brand of peanut butter just doesn't seem to taste quite as good any more, it seems too sticky, and tastes a bit pasty. And suddenly, you realize that you've gotten stuck- on PB Loco.

Nutrition Comparison

PB Loco Compared To The Blue Lid Variety

Of course, the comparison isn't perfect as the blue lid variety of peanut butter doesn't come in mocha- but this is as close as I can get.

Per 2 TBS Serving

Calories- PBL= 180 BL= 190
Total Fat g- PBL= 14 BL= 16
Sodium mg- PBL= 110 BL= 150
Total Carb g- PBL= 10 BL= 7
Sugars g- PBL= 5 BL= 3
Protein g- PBL= 6 BL= 7

The rest of the numbers are the same, or so close that it makes no real difference. But the gist of it is- PB Loco's peanut butter is lower in calories, but higher in carbs than the blue lid brand.

The Peanut Butter Spread

PB Loco's European Cafe Mocha Peanut Butter

I tested this peanut butter on everything that I like peanut butter on. I did not try it in fudge or brownies since I don't normally do that, but I'll bet it's delicious! If you try it, let me know the results.
  • Just The PB- good peanut flavor, but the coffee blast was a bit much at first
  • On Pretzels- the peanut butter "dipped" well, but the coffee flavor didn't work too well with the pretzels and the chocolate made it too sweet for my taste
  • On Ice Cream- I thought it made a great ice cream topping. It didn't get too hard, but it didn't stay soft and creamy either, so stir it in quick if you don't want it as chunks.
  • Cookies- So much better than plain peanut butter! Absolutely delicious! My recipe is below.
  • Fluffer-Nutter- The European Cafe Mocha makes a wonderful peanut butter marshmallow sandwich. The flavors play together like two angelic children.
  • Plain Peanut Butter Sandwich- Good, but a little sweet and leaves a coffee aftertaste.
  • Peanut Butter Pickle Sandwich- I'm probably the only person who eats these, but since I do, I had to try it. It was surprisingly good!
  • On Apples- The other flavors would probably work well, but the sweetness of the apple and the coffee just did not mesh.
  • On Banana- That was excellent! Much better than plain peanut butter.
  • In A Banana Milkshake- To die for. The flavors, the combo... so perfect
  • In Bran Muffins- Very good and bakes well.
  • Peanut Butter Mocha Mocha- The flavor of this was great (adding the PB to an iced mocha), but the peanut butter smell overpowered the coffee.
  • On Celery- This was good, but the coffee flavor was a little weird on celery
