Pabst Blue Ribbon. The counterculture beer.

PBR as it is known, is making quite a comeback. From Portland Oregon to Asheville, North Carolina, PBR is a cult beer. They don't advertise but in cities like these, it is becoming the beer of choice for those that don't want to be told what to drink.

"Give me a P-ber!"

The PBR History

The original PBR brewery was founded in 1844, that's quite a history considering Anheuser-Bush and Miller only began in the 1850's. Throughout it's early history it won many brewing competitions, sometimes against it's rival Budweiser. So in 1882 it began selling it's beer with blue ribbons tied around the neck of the bottle, explaining the eventual name. During WWII the PBR company painted their beer tins green in honor of the military, very patriotic. In 2001 Miller took over the brewing of the PBR beer. So, in conclusion, what PBR drinkers have known is PBR has a long history as a US product, is a patriotic beer, and it won head to head competitions against Bud.

PBR...love it or hate it?

Do you think PBR rocks? Or maybe you are a die-hard Miller fan. Either way, head over to the debate
PBR. Better than Bud or Miller and give your opinion!

I moved to Asheville, NC in June where I had my first encounter with PBR, aside from the famous name. Asheville has seven breweries in town serving up some delicious brews but at a cost of $3.50 a glass, a night out can be pricey. Since I have

For The Asheville Beer Lovers

Asheville. Hot Bands. Cool Brews.

Asheville, NC has such great and talented bands. Bands local to Asheville and regional bands from Greenville to Knoxville. Fantastic venues to hear the tunes. Couple that with the local brews and you have an unbeatable combination that makes Asheville so unique. We have several local breweries in Asheville that serve up some tasty brews! And you can always find a PBR!
Our intention was to make a design that was as hot as the music scene and as cool as the local brews.
Check out this design as well as other great products at JJ Big Paws

Wow, I lived in Asheville 15 years ago and on your website recognized just about nothing. Pabst though, that I recognize...have a few empty cans from last night still sitting next to me. A decade ago in New Orleans you could only get Pabst at the diviest corner stores, now it's at all the hippest bars.

Thanks for the compliments, you have a pretty snazzy lens going on here yourself. And I cannot agree more about fresh from the brewery beer! I live in Austin Texas now and there are several breweries around here. Some fresh Live Oak pale ale really does the trick. Have a great day and keep up the good work. Cheers!

The actual reason it is called PBR is that it won the Blue Ribbon at the 1893 World's Fair and kept that in it's name since.
