If people love cats or hate them, the T10 headset phone is no different. So many reviews were critical, I hesitated to even try one. But I'm glad I ordered a T10, and it's a keeper. Instead of giving the phone a good workout for several months, I'll review it now so as to report my initial experiences and address the complaints.

The Headset Cord is over 6 ft. long, a plus. It plugs into the Headset Jack on the base. (The Oct 17, 2002, review stating that it's only 3 ft. long is outdated, and is alarmingly misleading.)

My unit does not make humming noises while in use, as some reported experiencing. This was a major concern, prior to purchase. (I have a DSL Internet connection for my computer, so I did need to plug the Line Cord into a DSL adapter, which plugs into the wall phone jack.)

Aovid Computer Viruses

1 - Emails and Downloads: Steer clear of unknown emails. Do not open an email from a sender that you do not know. Set your email where you can see the subject and a portion of what the email is about without actually opening the email. If you don't recognize it or it is of no use to you, delete it. Be wary of arbitrary downloads.

Do not download information from obscure or x-rated websites and do not download excessive toolbars. Actually, the only toolbar you need is Internet Explorer or the Mozilla Firefox toolbar. If you happen to use another browser outside of those two, you can utilize the toolbar that comes with that particular browser. Quite a few companies on the web try to get you to download their specific toolbar; don't do it. Many viruses obtain access to your computer via downloads.

2 - Virus Protection Software: A good, reputable virus protection program goes a long way in protecting your computer. The top five are Shield Deluxe 2011, Trend Micro Titanium, Norton, Panda, and Zone Alarm. Choose one, keep it up to date, and protect your computer. The top five are Shield Deluxe 2011, Trend Micro Titanium, Norton, Panda, and Zone Alarm. Choose one, keep it up to date, and protect your computer.

3 - Adware and Spyware Removal Tools: There are quite a few legitimate adware, spyware, and malware removal tools available on the Internet and most are free of charge. Snapfiles is freeware that is available for download and will remove most viruses from your computer. It can also be used as a way to prevent a virus before it occurs.

4 - System Updates: Run system updates each time you are prompted to. Only run updates that come directly from your computer manufacturer. For example, if you have a HP, only run updates that come from HP. If you own a Dell computer, only run updates from Dell.

5 - Run System Diagnostics: Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. Also, from the top of your IE browser click Tools, Internet Options, and clear your "cache." Cache is your temporary Internet files, cookies, and history. Clear the cache once or twice per week and run system diagnostics once or twice per month.

Browser Hijack and .EXE Virus

The Browser Hijack Virus, as of June 2011, is a few months old. This virus usually attacks Internet Explorer (IE) and any other executable (.exe) file or program.

The way to defeat the virus is to "right click" on the program or Internet Explorer and select "Run as administrator." This will allow you to open your browser or the executable program you're attempting to run or download.

To fix the Hijack Virus once and for all you will need to download and run the malwarebytes program. You can download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from the PC-Repairsite website under "downloads."

The Google redirect problem occurs with most browsers but there are tools for removing the virus. One of the many anti-malware utilities is NoAdware 5. Invalid IP Address

The consequences of an Invalid IP Address results in a loss of your Internet connection. If your computer is set to obtain an IP Address automatically you might occasionally experience this minor setback. In order to fix this loss of connectivity issue the first thing you want to do is reboot your computer. Rebooting can oftentimes be the easiest fix.

If you have more than one computer with Internet connection, check those computers for connectivity. Check your IP address by clicking "Start," go to "Run" and type CMD in the box. This will open a dos prompt, at the command line type "ipconfig/all", no quotation marks and hit enter. If you're wirelessly connected you should see an IP address that starts with 192, if you see the IP address of 169 you have an invalid IP address.

Also check your Ethernet (cabling) connection from your modem to router to your computer. Sometimes losing the IP address means that your cable is loose or is disconnected.

For more information about changing a 169 IP Address, see this article.

Logitech Webcam C260 Review

by Sydney Rae

I work at Best Buy, so before I went online to search I looked at what my store had to offer. They carried this exact webcam for twenty dollars more. I'm in love with the cam, its amazing and beats out a lot of expensive cams out there. The shipping was fast and so was the installation once I got it. My laptops is kinda slow, I'll admit, so I was expecting the installation process to be an all day thing but it literally took me 10 minutes, and then I was chatting with my boyfriend. He sent me a picture of what he could see on his screen and it was better than his brand new cam! Sound quality is outstanding, and the software doesn't take up a lot of room on my hard drive, which is an awesome bonus.! Works great with Skype and Chat Roulette, and as a camera too! I strongly recommend this product to anyone wanting a webcam. The quality is too good to be true for the price!

Phishing and Security

Be alert for bogus email messages referred to as "phishing." United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team defines phishing as "an attempt by an individual or group to solicit personal information from unsuspecting users by employing social engineering techniques. Phishing emails are crafted to appear as if they have been sent from a legitimate organization or known individual. These emails often attempt to entice users to click on a link that will take the user to a fraudulent web site that appears legitimate. The user then may be asked to provide personal information such as account usernames and passwords that can further expose them to future compromises. Additionally, these fraudulent web sites may contain malicious code."

You will never receive an email from legitimate financial institutions, banks, and Paypal asking you to click a link to reset your password, verify your information, or to login. Authentic information and concerns from your online financial institution will be displayed after you login to your account from their secure platform, not from an email message. To report phishing emails via US-Cert forward the message to: phishing-report@us-cert.gov

This next warning goes without saying but you would be surprised how much it occurs. Do not give out your email password to anyone for any reason. Even when you call tech support do not disclose your email password and the tech support representative should not be asking for it. The tech support agent does not have access to your password. In most cases all she sees on your account in regards to a password are X's in the place where the password would be. If you have forgotten your password, she has the ability to reset it and her system will automatically generate a simple password, like, "gameyear" or any other non-complicated password. The tech support rep is trained to immediately advise you to change the computer generated password ASAP. When you reset, make sure it's a strong password that includes numbers, letters, and special characters.

Be extremely careful about providing your social security number online. If you're applying for a job online, make sure you're dealing with a reputable website. Go to Alexa.com and Compete.com to verify information about the company that you are applying to for employment. If there is no pertinent information on either of these web information companies try the Better Business Bureau. If you find no information on the potential employer do not apply.

Whether you're using Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or another reputable browser, utilize their security features such as checking certificates from trusted web sites. The latest browser versions maintain a list of phishing and malware sites, and will warn you any time you try to access a known bad site.

Malware is acronym that stands for "malicious software." This rogue program includes, but is not limited to, spyware or adware programs, such as tracking cookies, which are used to monitor your surfing habits. Malware also includes more sinister items, such as Trojan horses, keyloggers, worms, and viruses.

Follow the guidelines stipulated in this article and you will be able to avoid the myriad computer viruses that are waiting to attack your system registry, hard drive, memory, files, folders, and much more.

Script Error

"Script Error" generally means you have a corrupted Registry. A corrupted registry is created when you try to upgrade or download a program that is already on your computer, without uninstalling the original program. This creates conflicts in you computer's registry and generates the script error.

Totally uninstall previous versions of old software before you install a newer version. If you cannot find the older software on your computer, go to Start and search for the software. If it is found by searching, delete all files associated with the software before installing the upgrade.

Run a complete virus scan shortly after you encounter the Script Error and then restart your computer. Check your browser and see if the error returns. If it does return then you will need to uninstall your Internet Explorer or Mozilla browser. Typically, if the Script Error is caused by a browser issue it will be Internet Explorer, not Mozilla Firefox. Firefox has a tendency to just crash without any error messages.

Fix Script Errors

Speed Up Your Computer

Run Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup removes temporary Internet files and downloaded files that are not needed such as unnecessary Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets. It also empties the Recycle Bin and removes temporary files such as error reports. Removes Windows components that are not used along with unused installed programs. Lastly, Disk Cleanup removes restore points and shadow copies (manual or automatic backup copies or snapshots of data) from System Restore. To run Disk Cleanup: Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

Run Disk Defragmenter

Disk Defragmenter consolidates fragmented files and folders on your hard drive so that each occupies a single space on the disk. Files are then compacted end-to-end and are no longer fragmented therefore reading and writing to the hard disk is faster. Disk Defragmenter should be run monthly or after large files or programs are downloaded to your computer. To run click Start,
All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

Run Error Checking Utility

A hard drive can develop bad sectors after long-term use. Bad sectors slow down the performance of your hard drive which makes file saving and other data writing more difficult. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors. If you use your computer often run the Error Checking Utility weekly by navigating to Computer, right-click on the "C" drive, select Property, Tools, and under Error Checking click the "Check Now" button.

Protect Against Spyware

Spyware sends information from your PC to other computers usually without your permission, thus the term "spyware." It's used to record your movements on the Internet and even log your name, address, and other personal information. Other names for this malicious software are "adware," and "malware." The easiest way to rid your system of spyware is to download the free PC safety scan by Microsoft Security Essentials.

Eliminate Excessive Startup Programs

All programs use system resources, therefore if you have too many programs running at startup it slows your system down, particularly when you're booting (starting) your computer. You can prevent programs from automatically loading by deleting unnecessary programs from the Startup Folder, at the Start Menu icon, in the program itself (under the Tools tab), or the System Configuration Utility. The System Registry and the Task Scheduler are other places where unused programs could be stored.

Virus and Spyware removal

If a Virus or Trojan has infected your computer there are freeware programs available that will clean your computer. Here's a few listed below:

  1. HouseCall - Trend Micro's scanner for identifying and removing viruses, Trojans, worms, unwanted browser plugins, and other malware.

  2. Windows Live OneCare - safety scanner, free service designed to help ensure the health of your PC, scan and remove viruses. See the resource links at the end of this article. Windows Live OneCare has a version for XP and a version for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

  3. Snap Files - called Ad-Aware Free, it's an adware and spyware removal tool that scans your memory, registry, and hard drives for known data-mining, aggressive advertising, and tracking components. It then lists the results and offers to remove or quarantine the components.
