PDD-Nos Resources

PDD-Nos is on the autism specturm. Find tips, resources and educational materials that have helped in my son's progress.

What is PDD-Nos?

At the age of 2, my youngest of 7 kids was diagnosed with PDD-Nos (on the autism spectrum). This started my journey into learning what this condition is. I started a blog to document his progress and to reach out to others dealing with a diagnosis. Due to his evaluations, doctor's appointments and other responsibilities, I lost my employment. Everything happens for a reason. Soon after, I became employed in an Early Intervention agency which helped me learn about the services available in Orange County, NY. I hope you find this information helpful. If you wish to contact me, you can do so by leaving a comment or using the contact form (for anonymity).
What is PDD-Nos?
Here is an explanation of PDD-Nos. I've also included a little about how my son was diagnosed.
Running Errands With Your Autistic Child
Life isn't easy with any child, but it's even more difficult withspecial needs children. Here are some things I've learned that may help you and your child during daily activities.
Autism: The Thief
Autism is a thief that tries to rob our children of their potential. This post is about my feeling on autism.
Coming to Terms With Splinter Skills
Splinter skills in autistic children can be amazing. Realizing that my son had some unusual abilities were a little hard to deal with. Here's a little something I wrote about it. Feel free to comment on the blog or below in the comments.
Mischief or Misunderstanding
Sometimes being a parent means deciphering behavior. In this case, there was a purpose to his mischief and a great surprise too!
Autism: Reading Before Talking
Shocked to learn my son could read first sight words even though he couldn't speak.
Autism and Scripted Language
What is your opinion on scripted language?
Target, Bratz and the Number 11
An amazing discovery of The Little One's mapping skills.

Educational Resources That Have Brought Drastic Results

Results are not always the same for each child, but the following DVDs have brought drastic improvements in his progress.
Signing Time Sign Langauge DVDs

I purchased these DVDs for my son. After a week, his teacher sent me a letter. She wanted to know what I was doing at home because he was having an explosion of sign language and his communication skills had drastically improved. I tell everyone about these DVDs because it's one of the best educational tools I've found.
Baby BumbleBee DVDs
This is another set of DVDs I purchased for my son. He loved it and watched them repeatedly. I bought the entire series. He learned his alpahabet combined with phonics. He learned how to see a group of items and know the amount without having to count from one. The videos teach colors, opposites and have a vocabulary builder.
