Parent Poll: Pedophiles on Parole ~ What's your Answer?

Ranked #10,383 in Culture & Society, #210,757 overall

Our Children ~ The Sunshine of Our Lives.

Our kids should lead idyllic lives awash in the innocence of childhood...
They should be able to laugh and play without the fear that anyone would hurt them.
They should only think about what new wonder they will learn today, or what fun awaits them just around the corner.
They should be able to walk to school, or walk a few blocks to enjoy the afternoon at their friends house.
They should only meet those adults who can be trusted to teach them the wonders of life, appreciate them for who they are, and mentor them to become fine upstanding citizens of our society.

Unfortunately there are those predators, perhaps closer than is comfortable, who seek to steal the innocence from their very essence.
This quiz and info share is meant to create meaningful discussion about this atrocious crime targeting innocent children.

This is a very important topic. The label, pedophile, is often used too imprecisely and there are different categories of pedophiles. Therefore, there are no clear dichotomous answers. This is something we will continue to argue and study for many more years before we have any chance of really understanding the phenomenon.

very important subject - imho pedophiles who have harmed children should be locked up for good
  • GrowWear Sep 11, 2010 @ 5:11 am | delete
They all say, and it does look like it, that they will always be this way, so the law should keep them once it catches them. Children deserve no less.

I have to agree with Ladymermaid. We must think of protecting the innocence of children first. The perpetrator is an adult. They made their choices knowing the consequences. They just don't expect to get caught.

You have made me think about this some more. Incarceration certainly isn't going to "fix" a pedophile. They need extensive therapy and, even then, who knows if they can change. Monitoring is very important.

Nicely done. Thanks for the chance to vote my opinion! Pedophelia is a scourge we would be well rid of if it were possible. In the meantime, permanent incarceration would be my preference. Detection of the undiscovered perp is the hard part.

Where children are concerned there should not be any chances taken, they come first, not the offender.

I have a half-way house for sex offenders across the street from me, so this has struck a chord. I'll not forget the day when I had a notice in my mailbox that there is a level 3 offender (meaning there is a high likelihood of repeat offense), living in my neighborhood. The halfway house happens to be directly across the street from my neighborhood playground, and a block away from an elementary school. Not pedophiles, per say,but disturbing nonetheless.

I think that if an offender has multiple convictions, and is likely to harm again, they should be locked up forever. But I do also believe that some offenders can be rehabilitated.

I always look at the sex offender report when selling a house. It is just amazing how many of these pieces of sh*t live near our precious children. I think they should be locked up for good. The laws should be "one strike, that's it, never get out again." I used to think castration was a good option, but they actually will use anything to do their evil so castration doesn't work. I don't think death is too much punishment for them either. They don't deserve to live and cause hurt any more.

This is an excellent lens and one I'm sure will spark quite a bit of discussion. To that end, here are my thoughts. This is one of those topics that gives me nightmares, literally. I have two young boys and I probably seem overprotective of them, but the thought of something like this happening to either one of them scares the hell out of me. We just learned that there is an offender living just two blocks away from us! And Lord knows how many more are in the area that we don't know about. So, should they be allow to roam free with only parole restrictions keeping them at bay ... hell no! I've heard far too many stories about repeat offenders to believe that they should be given a second chance.
