Marshmallow Peeps Candy for the Holidays and Special Occasions

Peeps Aren't Just for Easter Anymore

Peeps have been produced by the Just Born company since 1953. Prior to that time, the Rodda Candy Company sold hand-made marshmallow chick confections beginning in the 1920s. But when Just Born took over, the hand-made process was transformed into manufacturing mass-produced, sugary marshmallow candies. The original yellow chick shape and color is what gave the candy its name -- Peeps!

Over time, Peeps in other colors and shapes have been added to the sweet product line, including the now familiar bunny shape. These days, Peeps are an Easter basket staple and steadily becoming more popular for other holidays and occasions.

Here, take a look at many of the Peeps marshmallow candies available, along with links to Peeps holiday recipes and various Peeps products....

Make Your Own Saffron Meringue Chick "peeps"

Because not everyone likes marshmallows

Saffron Meringue ChicksThis is Do-it-Yourself peeping with an alternative to the traditional marshmallow Peep. Here's an easy recipe for meringue chicks, which gives you the option of omitting the gelatin and not worrying about getting to the "soft-ball stage" in candy-making. This recipe includes chocolate chips for the chick eyes and natural coloring (the saffron) which has a very distinctive flavor.

Learn how to make these Saffron Meringue "peeps" with step-by-step instructions and photos.
