In 1954 Just Born began Manufacturing Peeps Marshmallows
Do you love to microwave your peeps? Or love that chocolate shell? How about peeps smores? MMmmmmm!
Peeps marshmallows began in 1954 by the company "Just Born". The sweet colored sugar and fluffy marshmallow chicks. In the 1950s it took 27 minutes to make one today it takes 6 minutes. In 1953 the Just Born company bought Rodda Candy Company. Rodda made these marshmallow chicks. In the 1960s they began making seasonal marshmallow treats such as green christmas trees, orange pumpkins, snowmen and cats (1958). The color Lavendar began in 1995, blue in 1998, vanilla cream eggs in 1999, in 2000 began strawberry flavors. After that every year they come up with something new. In 2006 they put chicks inside chocolate eggs! In 2008 they began making yellow tulips. Now chicks and bunnies come in 5 different colors. Yellow, pink, lavendar, blue and white. The new chocolate bear is cute too.

Peeps and Chocolate Fondue Recipe
PEEPS® chicks, bunnies and eggs
1/3 cup butter (1/3 c = 6 tbs)
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
(Before preparing recipe, measure all ingredients and have them ready nearby. Continuously stirring.)
1. Over low heat, melt butter in small saucepan.
2. When melted, stir in cocoa until well blended.
3. Add sugar and evaporated milk.
4. Increase heat to medium low, stir continuously until sugar is dissolved, about three minutes. Sauce will thicken, becoming smooth and shiny.
5. Remove from heat.
6. Stir in vanilla.
7. Immediately transfer to small fondue pot or dipping bowl.
8. Dip PEEPS® chicks, bunnies and eggs and enjoy!
Makes approximately one cup of dipping sauce. For extra dipping fun, prepare whole strawberries, pineapple chunks and cubes of angel food cake for dipping too. Skewers are optional and may be substituted with forks for young children.
This recipe can be enjoyed with PEEPS® from any season!
Please note: Fondue dipping sauce may be hot. Parental supervision is recommended.

1 graham cracker broken in half
1 Peep
1 Square of chocolate
Put one half of graham cracker on a plate or napkin top with Peep. Put in microwave and set timer to about 40 seconds. Start. WATCH as Peep starts to puff up. STOP the microwave before it gets too big (about 20 seconds or so) Slap square of chocolate on to peep very quickly. Top with 2nd half of graham cracker. The heat of the peep melts the chocolate just enough and the Peep's sugar coating adds an extra crunch.
Peeps Sunflower Cake

Ingredients:
* 1 package (18-1/4 ounces) yellow cake mix
* 2 cans (16 ounces each) chocolate frosting
* 19 yellow chick Peeps candies
* 1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Directions:
* Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using two greased and waxed paper-lined 9-in. round baking pans. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely; carefully remove waxed paper.
* Level tops of cakes. Spread frosting between layers and over the top and sides of cake.
* Without separating Peeps and curving slightly to fit, arrange chicks around edge of cake for sunflower petals. For sunflower seeds, arrange chocolate chips in center of cake. Yield: 12 servings.

Peeps Bunny Cookies
Ingredients:
16 Assorted Peeps Bunnies
1 tube ready-to-bake sugar cookie dough
1 container vanilla frosting
Assorted Food Coloring
Egg-Shaped Cookie Cutter
Directions:
Roll out sugar cookie dough with rolling pin to 1/4" thickness. Use cookie cutter to cut egg-shapes. Bake according to directions and let cool. Divide frosting into separate containers. Combine food coloring and vanilla frosting to make variety of colors. Frost Cookies. Place Bunnies firmly onto frosting. Makes about 16 cookies.

- If I am in the US, I get them a month ahead of time, open the cellophane, and put them on top of the fridge. Then when Easter comes they are tough and chewy, which is why I love them.

- Love the recipes! Especially the sunflower cake one. Too cute! When I was pregnant with my last, I used to crave peeps dunked in milk. I am not sure why :)

- Okay, this made me laugh. My favorite thing to do is to microwave a peep. Be sure you have the patience to clean the mess afterwards. But it is pretty funny.
