What You Need To Know
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is a condition that occurs in women due to a bacterial infection in the reproduction system. A very common source of this disease is from untreated stds such as gonorrhea and chlamydia. The CDC estimates that there are over 700,000 new women diagnosed with PID each year in the United States alone. It is a very serious condition that can not only be painful but have serious detrimental effects to a womans reproductive system. Infertility and even death are possibilities. When an untreated disease such as gonorrhea is not treated and cured, it can make it's way deeper within the woman's reproductive system. If it reaches and infects the fallopian tubes, it will leave scar tissue and this tissue can prevent an egg from passing through in the future. This leads to an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy that takes place outside of the uterus) and is very dangerous for both the fetus and the mother. If enough damage is done to the fallopian tubes it will render the woman infertile. See below for more on pelvic inflammatory disease symptoms. If you experience any symptoms or haven't had an STD Test in the last year, get tested today to ensure you are not at risk for the damaging effects of PID.
Warning!
PID is often caused from STD's that often show NO symptoms, such as Gonorrhea. Get STD testing annually to ensure you are not at risk for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Symptoms
Once they hit, it may be too late....
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease symptoms (PID) are varied from woman to woman, which makes it a hard condition to diagnose. Sometimes there will be very minor symptoms that are mistaken for one of the other dozen feminine hygiene conditions that are common such as a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. When symptoms do occur they can include, painful urination, pelvic pain, lower back pain, painful intercourse, fever and abnormal vaginal discharge. A lot of times the symptoms will be so mild that you'll dismiss them as nothing unless they persist. The most common cause of PID is from untreated bacterial std infections like gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is a very common std and is easily treatable, but what makes it such a serious std is if it is left untreated. It is very common for gonorrhea symptoms to be non-existent in women. So many women right now are indeed infected with gonorrhea and have no clue about it. They could have been infected as a teenager and ten years later develop PID because of it. Once PID is developed you run the risk of serious reproductive health issues like infertility and complicated pregnancies that could result in the death of both you and your baby. This is why most doctors will always order an std test for pregnant women. Bottom line is if you are not tested annually for stds than you cannot be sure of your current health status. These days it is very easy to get testing through online std testing services. They're cheap, professional and totally anonymous. Don't become one of the million women who are diagnosed with PID each year in the US alone, get tested for your common stds today. A Quick Look At PID
