    Lylie is my fave. I love to draw animals also with pastel and pencil. Don't you hate to see some that they sell that look cartoonish? I try to make mine as realistic as possible also, will probably post some one day. Squid Angel blessed.

    I too try to make mine as realistic as possible most of the time, but I don't mind the more cartoon styles, and find them therapeutic to draw myself sometimes. :) I have many likes.

    These are wonderful sketches/drawings. I could not find the "crappier ones." They all looked great to me and I especially liked the descriptions of medium used. I am a newbie to drawing so I am always looking for pages like these. Thank you. I am going to bookmark it

    I've always admired your profile icon but my favourite here has been the Mecha Bob Ross - it reminds me both of MC Escher (a favourite of mine) and Salvador Dali. On top of that I loved watching Bob Ross on tv and still catch occassional reruns of his shows, your drawing is a wonderful and imaginative tribute to him.

    Oh I so love Dali too <3 And with Bob Ross I painted my first painting when I was 12 watching his show, he was such a happy gentle man. My room always smelled delightful with terps and oils. lol.

    i liked your sketches i voted for the true love sketch on your poll as it was very well done and showed a lot of expression.
    Though because i like fantasy images i also liked the gargoyle one and the Bacchante sketches.

    Your art is amazing, and I love the casual and honest way you disclose your process. Picking a favorite was hard for me! It's a tossup between these two, oh, no, three, five, oh gosh, now I don't remember where I started... I can't tell that you are hunched over a mirror in your self portrait, but maybe something glimmers impatiently in your eyes there? Yes, I think so. The Lylie you show here is a beautiful woman with character beaming from every feature. And Mecha Bob Ross painting himself painting happy trees in an apocolyptic waste land... words fail me. That's one of the coolest things I've ever seen, anywhere.

    he he Anubis. His little snout makes the name appropriate. Very cute drawing. The seemingly unattached foot from the scan of the bottom of your foot was kinda creepy lol. I found myself wondering how a foot could grow straight out from a pile of cloth....unless it was severed. I love your artwork, keep it up!

    Lol, thanks! Yeah I stuck my foot right on the scanner to get the reference to draw by. I've been trying like mad to find that picture to put it along side hahahah. I like the idea of it looking like a severed foot.

    Awwww, and little Anubis is a sweetie pie. My friend just last night sent me a picture of him with his head on the pillow like a people. HAhahha. He's full of sillyness and sweetness. And him begging for treats is the best.

    Shannon, I love your work. I voted for that ticked off cat because you absolutely captured his personality. I knew he was a grumpy sort before I ever read your description. LOL He is terrific. With regard to your statement: "A small, broken individual that hides behind a mask of humor to hide the pain and misery."     Well I am not sure which ones you felt were your worst, I think that they were all really impressive, taking on Mecha Bob Ross painting himself I think would have been really hard, your mind really has to go to a different place to do something like this, I think it is great that a lot of artists are going back to sketch drawing's and I love the fact that coloured pencils are being used more and more in art work, they give an amazing effect and from some of the things that I have seen they have been able to achieve a look that you don't seem to be able to get in a painting.

    Thanks Collettehrock. Mecha Bob was a very difficult drawing that took lots of preliminary drawing, and three months to complete. lol He did give me quite a time, but I enjoyed the tar out of him. And oh yeah speaking of three month wonders, the color pencil skull. I really am fond of the look the color pencils give too and have seen so many wonderful images from other artists. I just wish I enjoyed working with them better. As a pencil nut I wanted too soooooooo bad! hahah.

    Very nice, love seeing your work! I have started my first self portrait (oil paint), oh my gosh, it's hard! I am fairly new to portraits, but I so love the challenge.     Great page! I used to draw a lot and many of my drawings were destroyed when I left home to travel. Since having kids though, my artistic side has been left by the wayside! My sister recently gave me three sketchpads, pencils and a kneaded eraser like I used to use, but I just haven't been able to make use of them. I just sit and stare at the blank page.

    Thanks for your visit. On the blank page thing, don't worry about eating up paper. I sometimes stare at it too, that's really normal. Just doodle on it, doodle anything even if it doesn't make sense. Do a quick sketch of something across the room, or turn a picture upside down and draw it.

    You could also set up a goal that you are going to just fill up a page a day with fun, meditative doodles that don't make sense. I do those weird doodles every day. Sometimes I like to draw without looking at anything, or the pressure of trying to do anything if that makes any sense? : )

    I love thje way you draw, I have a very hesitant style, shading rather than drawing and an old teacher totally destroyed my confidence in my work by saying I should chamge this style to a bnolder one. Of course I couldn't so I gave up and I have carried pencils and paints around from house move to house move but still cannot get up the confidence to start again

    Thanks Sheila. You know I could have swore and remember the reply I gave to this post, but I think a Squid somehow ate it. LOL I don't know what happened. It was a long one too!

    And don't listen to that confidence destroying butt hole of a teacher. You have to take crits with a grain of salt. I do listen to them though, I analyze what people say try to find out if I can learn anything from it. If I find they are doing it just to destroy my confidence I just move on and keep on doing what I'm doing with a shrug.

    I'm pretty slow and methodical and have many of hesitant moments too. Don't worry about that. Everyone works in the way they are comfy with after all. :) I used to be a paper destroyer from pressing too darn hard. lol

    I wanted to thank everyone who came in today and gave me congrats, blessings, likes and all sorts of love. As a newb, I figured the lens of the day was a long, long way off, or even impossible. Thanks to who ever made that possible too!

    Normally it is my custom to literally visit anyone who blessed, commented, or liked. But, A few hours later I'm not sure if that's going to be possible. hehehehe, wow! This is so awesome. This is a years worth of traffic for me. Also, I think it cracked my dash board and all of my blessings disappeared. So I don't know where all the angels came from just yet. But I hope to root you all out in the list in the dash.

    You all have made my year, and I don't even know how to thank you all without sounding like a dork. But Thanks a thousand times! HUGS <3

    Congratulations on LOtD. You are very gifted with drawing. Many folks would be happy just to draw a face that looked real. Your drawings are fabulous works of art. You should save your art book and not cut anymore out with the knife. Your complete works will be priceless works of art if they're not already. Well Done and Thank You for sharing and the pointers.

    Thanks so much! :) I've been told many times to quit doing that. If someone likes something that much I'm compelled to give it. But, then I have nothing left but the images on my hard drive. hahaha. Then I'm like awww, why'd I do that some months and even days later.

    Excellent! I really enjoyed your lens. Congrats on LOTD. My daughter did tons of sketching. Reading through your explanations of your process reminded me so much of when my daughter was learning to draw. You might think they are ramblings, but I enjoyed them. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks! You should try it, it was a really weird experience. I always feel as though I know a person on a different level when I draw them, so it was creepy and cool at the same time to draw myself lol. Thanks again for stopping by. :)

    Thank you snazzy! I've painted since I was 12 and doodled a great deal when I was a kid, but I wasn't formally trained so I couldn't really do what I wanted. Later on in life I decided enough was enough and attempted to paint better. I got this book and it said in order to paint better, I had to draw better. So I read every book I could and sat there for six hours a day sometimes longer and even practiced everything I drew twice. So it was part practice, part soaking in vasts amounts of information while chugging coffee. LOL.

    It really is as simple as that. There are no short cuts and no tricks. You just learn to see and forget about your hands since your eyes and brain tell it what to do. Negative shapes, this is a shape, that is a shape. Its a puzzle not a nose or a mouth.

    Dang it you opened up a can of worms LOL. I can go on forever. I will drop it with this last thought. You resign yourself to the fact that, A, there will always be things you want to do that are out of your reach, so do it anyway, B, there will always be things to learn so you are never done, C, nothing is perfect, E, there is no such thing as instant gratification, so enjoy the journey and enjoy what you do. I think all you need to start A through E is sheer desire. HUGS! and thank you for stopping by.
