Fall Photos Combined With "Autumn Glory" by Helen Baeseman

I took a stroll around Pendleton in Fall 2008 and soaked up the beauty of the Fall Trees around the Village Green and around our home. I was able to snap some pictures that I would like to share with you along with a poem by Helen Baeseman titled "Autumn Glory". I found this poem in one of my Mom's 1968 Ideals Magazines. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful Fall Season as much as I am. Thank you for visiting with me today!

Please give this lens time to load as it is filled with photos.

Autumn Glory

by Helen D. Baeseman

While walking in the woods today,
I marveled at the bright array
Of autumn robes the trees had donned.
And, oh, how blue the sky beyond!
Could this be real, this fairyland
Of red and gold? And there I'd stand
Enraptured, far as eye could see,
At Mother Nature's artistry.

The maples wore rich gold brocade'
The oaks wore red, the balsams jade;
The stately elms in jasmine dressed,
As did the willows; and the rest
Were garbed in splendor, one and all,
For their majestic harvest ball.
And underneath, in their cool shade,
Wild asters, ferns and gentians played.

In verdant meadows, goldenrods
Were gently swaying' milkweed pods
Were sending forth their snowy down;
Pale flowerets trimmed each mullein crown.
Long rows of sumac, crimson-dyed,
Had set aflame the whole hillside.
Above wild geese in southward flight...
October's sun shone warm and bright.

Then sunset came. A velvet sky
Was tinted with a scarlet dye.
And o'er this red and gold and green
There came a stillness so serene,
As if all nature bowed its head
In worship. Then I knew who spread
This crown of glory o'er the land...
It was the Master's loving hand.

Fall Leaves and Trees

It was the perfect day for my little stroll and I got a lot of wonderful pictures. There were dogwoods, all kinds of maples and oaks, elms, the huge cypress, and the list just goes on and on. The colors were magnificent and every color in the rainbow adorned these lovely trees.

This Flaming Maple was at the Elementary School and I took the picture when I went to pick up my grandson from school this afternoon.

On The Village Green In Pendleton

The large Cypress just takes my breath away everytime I see it on the green. There are several around town and they all are gorgeous. You can see the old Guard House down at the other end of the green.

Thank you, John, for letting me use some of your photos.

John Sitton has enjoyed taking some beautiful photographs of the Fall trees near Millwee Creek. I think this is my favorite. John also took the gorgeous Sunset picture at the bottom of the poem that is on this lens.

autumn leaves

on Wikipedia

Autumn leaf color is a phenomenon that affects the normally green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the autumn season, one or many colors that range from red to yellow. The phenomenon is commonly called fall colors and autumn colors, while the expression fall foliage usually connotes the viewing of a tree or forest whose leaves have undergone the change. In some areas in the United States and Canada, "leaf peeping" tourism between the beginning of color changes and the onset of leaf fall, or scheduled in hope of coinciding with that period, is a major contribution to economic activity.
