HB Barnette Fire Station

The Pendleton Station is a part of the Anderson County Fire Department

Pendleton Volunteer Fire Department

The county system has worked well for over 40 years but no one is exactly sure why it works so well. Pendleton Fire Chief Bobby Pruitt says that it must be the people that make it work because other areas have tried to do things the way we do but don't have the same success.

Pendleton Fire Chief Bobby Pruitt stated that the County Fire Commission provides the Pendleton Fire Department with 2 Class A Pumpers and a Station Allowance. Everything else - the tankers, service truck, and grass truck - has been purchased with donations

A fitting day to spend time reflecting on this lens about the Pendleton VFD where David Crenshaw spent so much of his life protecting and serving the community... and in the end he did so even during his last breath. Observing his son Ben tonight, sad but standing with his family, tall with pride, while receiving hundreds of friends paying their respects at the funeral home... Lord he looks so much like David! He is his own man though and I know David is proud he is following those big footsteps of his in the path of service for the PVFD. Men like David and Bobby, who leave a legacy of service to others are a rare treasure ... and they have played a huge role in building, recruiting and sustaining the effectiveness of the VFD into a real community treasure. We all benefit are indeed fortunate and thankful that there are a multitude of volunteers in our Anderson VFD system of that rare breed ... and they continue to sacrifice their time, their energies and their sweat and blood to answer the call of service and to protect their communities and their fellow man in this most admirable way. The videos here of David are priceless and thank you Ohme for recognizing this great organization with this great lens.

Nancy, I know this site will mean a great deal to a lot of people now that Pendleton has lost David. It is so cool that you have kept up with everything in Pendleton both with your lenses and your videos! My father was a member of the Volunteer Fire Fighters in Pendleton when I was growing up...he and Pastor Girtman used to go together. Pastor had some great stories to tell at Daddy's funeral about the time they spent together. I am so very proud of Pendleton and so very glad that it is my home town!

Mrs. Nancy I'm a friend of Susann's and I want to say thanks so much for the videos of Sheriff. I worked for him his term in office and these videos are a way for us to still hear his voice. God Bless you for taking the time to make them. You never know when God is going to call you home. Thanks again and you have done a great job with this site. Kudos to You.

These volunteers deserve all the praise heaped upon them. I feel like all Americans should be reserve firefighters of sorts by having fire protection equipment in their homes and know what to do in case disaster strikes.

I have to laugh Nancy. We recently had some floods. The government is trying to cut public servants pay, nurses, police etc. I went into town and all I could see was public servants in appalling conditions risking their lives to help. The red cross sent out a truck to pick up my wife (a nurse) for night duty as the roads were almost impassable to normal traffic. But nary a sight of a politician did I see. God bless people like this and Pendleton firefighters. Blessed by an Angel.

Nancy this is wonderful! And you are putting Pendleton on the map. I have always loved the Pendleton Volunteer Fire Department. Since I lived down the street from it I always new when they were going out. But in the 60's with my brother, Billy Crenshaw, cousin David Crenshaw and their friend Bobby Jones, who all were just in high school, it made you wonder if they would tear up the equipment or wreck the equipment but these guys have done all of us proud over the years. I am so proud of who they have become and who the Fire Department have become. And very proud of Ben Crenshaw who has followed in his Grandfather's and Father's steps. Thank you for putting this lense together.
