HAPPENINGS AROUND PENDLETON SC
This page is intended to keep you informed of events and other news about Pendleton SC. Even though we are a small community, we have a lot going on as you can see by the listings. I hope that everyone will feel free to let me know of their event or news so I can add it to the list.
Note: I am just a community volunteer and do not work for the town of Pendleton. This is just something that I do on my own. If you need more information about an event, please call the number listed for that event. I just post what I am given. Thank you.
If you are new to a Squidoo lens, this is a Scroll Down Web page so just keep scrolling and reading until you can scroll no more. Thank you.
Lenten Lunches begin Feb 22 and continue each Wed at noon - see schedule below
One event flyer will be featured at the top and then continue to scroll for the calendar listings followed by flyers.
Event Flyers are posted below the calendar listings so

The Story of Littlejohn's Grill in Clemson SC
by Vince Jackson
For more information, visit the website http://clemsonbluesfest.com This event was inspired by the book, The Story of Littlejohn's Grill in Clemson SC by Vince Jackson
SUGARCANE PRESS IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF A NEW BOOK
BY VINCE JACKSON
THE LITTLEJOHN'S GRILL STORY:
BLUES, JAZZ AND ROCK 'N' ROLL IN CLEMSON, SC
During the time of segregation, one beacon helped light the way for black entertainers travelling the Blues Road in the Upstate-The Littlejohn's Grill.
Touring on the Chitlin' Circuit, the only venue available to black performers, brought many soon-to-be-famous entertainers to Clemson.
James Brown, Ray Charles, Harry Belafonte, Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Count Basie, Ruth Brown, LaVern Baker, Otis Redding and many others made appearances in Clemson during the 1950s and 1960s. Jackson tells their stories and examines the history of segregation in a small Southern college town, adding many colorful details about the history of the area.
Vince Jackson is a free-lance reporter for the Anderson Independent-Mail and a contributor to magazines such as LIVING BLUES, which published an article about the Grill in the June, 2010 issue.
Vince has lived in Clemson for more than 20 years. He became interested in Littlejohn's Grill when he kept hearing stories about major entertainer's appearances in Clemson. The Littlejohn's Grill story is relatively unknown. At the present time Vince is working on a documentary film featuring interviews with living Grill patrons.
Copies of the Littlejohn's Grill book may be obtained by contacting the author:
VINCE JACKSON
864-650-0585 or website Littlejohn's Grill Website
Vince is available to speak to your group about the history of Littlejohn's Grill and hold book signings at your events. Please contact him for more details.

This lens was #1 in Local on December 3, 2008. Hopefully it will stay there for a little while. Thank you to everyone who views, comments, and rates this lens.Unfortunately, we are now a long way from the number 1 spot. It is the fall of 09 and I sure hope traffic will pick up soon so we can once again have this lens in the top rankings.
