The Pen Fishing Rod Looks Interesting, But Does It Work?

As an avid fisherman I love watching anything about fishing on TV.  And when I saw the pen fishing rod infomercial, I was impressed, but skeptical.  Read on to find out what I did soon after I found out about the fish pen.

The Pen Fishing Rod Is A Must For Any Avid Fisherman

If you're a night owl like I am, there's no doubt that you have seen the late night infomercial about the pen fishing rod, aka the fish pen. The first time I saw the pen fishing rod I thought it was a joke. I mean, how can you catch a fish of any considerable size with a microscopic telescoping rod you can clip into your shirt pocket?

Well, the idea of the the pen fishing rod stuck in my head. I started to think about ALL of the times that I had been driving by a little pond around town or while on road trips and wished that I had my fishing gear with me. The novelty and the al"lure" of the pen fishing rod was enough to make me seriously consider going online and buying it. That way I'd always be prepared for the next pond I happen across. Besides, who knows how many lunkers I've passed up because I didn't have my fishing gear?

So I finally gave in and went searching online for the coveted pen fishing rod. I actually lucked out and found a special 2-for-1 internet offer.

As soon as the package arrived I unwrapped it to make sure that everything was there:

* Pen fishing rod
* Brass reel
* 3 Hooks
* Line
* 3 split shot weights
* 1 Bobber
* Zippered carrying case.

Then I hopped in the truck and headed straight to my favorite fishing spot. I was a bit embarrassed to be pitching worms with the pen fishing rod, so I walked around the pond to a more secluded area.

Now I have to be honest, I wasn't able to lob my bait and bobber very far, but I didn't expect to cast a mile either. To my surprise, within five minutes I had my first bite on my pen fishing rod and was reeling in a nice little largemouth bass!

The pen fishing rod held up rather nicely to the two pound bass, but I don't think that it could handle anything larger than that. The hooks that came in the kit weren't up to my standards, so I used one of my own Japanese hooks. Overall, I was really impressed with my newest toy. The fishing pen will obviously never replace my top of the line rod and reel, but I can honestly say that this would definitely be my "go-to" rod while on the road.

If you love fishing as much as I do I highly recommend you pick up your own pen fishing rod. You'll be glad you did.

    I'm ready to bite, but don't want to get taken hook, line, and sinker.
    1)How far were you able to cast it?
    2)Did the reel cause backlashes after multiple casts?
