Here is a very easy recipe for these cute Penguin appetizers that are guaranteed to be the talk of the party. And besides being cute, they're quite tasty, too.

This is the basic recipe. Feel free to spice up the cream cheese or use a flavored cream cheese from your local bagel shop.

The recipe makes 18 pieces so multiply it according to the quantity you need.

type=textFIRST.....

Take the super jumbo olives and cut a notch in them lengthwise as shown here..

This is the Penguin's belly.
type=textSecond.....

Slice the carrot into 1/4 inch pieces and then cut a small notch from each one...SAVE THE NOTCH!

These are the Penguin's feet.
type=textThird.....

Put the carrot notch into the hole of each of the small olives..

This gives us our Penguin's face.
type=textFourth

Carefully fill each of the jumbo olives with the cream cheese mixture of your choice.

Now it's starting to look like a Penguin belly.
type=textFifth

Take a toothpick and put it through the small olive and down through the jumbo olive and then stick it into the carrot.

Dress those Penguins up for dinner...

There are many options you can add to these cute little guys.

Red Pepper strips make nice little scarves.

Frilly toothpicks add a festive touch.

Make hats from pieces of pepper.

A thin slice of ham wrapped around the neck is nice.

You get the idea so have fun with it and enjoy !!!

You can also have a lot of fun with the presentation....

I cut cardboard to fit into my cake carrier, painted it and covered with plastic wrap before taping it down. The multiple layers are all from one styrofoam disc, also wrapped in plastic.

    Very clever! Not a big fan of black olives though so I'd just use grapes and say they're purple penguins!

    Thanks so much. I actually do not eat black olives either, my husband does. We made this appetizer for a New Years party last night and I just admired them--everybody said they weredelicious. We added red scarves to these made from roasted peppers. Will be posting more pics soon :)
