Mr. Popper's Penguins was one of my favorite stories as a child, and naturally grew to be one the stories I enjoy reading to my girls. It is a 1939 Newberry honor winner, and has been a classic read ever since. Mr. Popper is one of the most delightful and loving characters, and the books resonates so many great values like determination. In 2011 this classic book was made in to a movie staring Jim Carey. What a wonderful book. This story of two male penguins who were given the chance to nurture an egg and the penguin chick they hatched had me smiling from page one. My five year old was enchanted and I know that it will be a frequent re-read. I love the message of diversity, the story that's told in a loving way but mostly I love the illustrations. The fuzzy penguin chick pictures alone are worth the price of the book.

This book is wonderful! I am a Children's librarian and read it to a class of three year olds and they love all the colorful pictures! It's fun!Very simplified text great for their attention spans.
A must have for teachers or young penguin lovers!
