Penguins are some of the most charmingcreatures on earth. While I was creating this lens, which focuses on our AntarcticFriends, I started to ponder the reasons why we all find them so delightful. Here's what I came up with:

They form a strong family bond. We can relate so easily to them, because their coupled unions speak of real undyinglove and devotion. Everyone on earth seeks this kind of love too. I'm not sure my hubby would walk 60 miles in subzero temperatures to get me some frozen fishsticks, but I'd adore him for it!

They remind us of comedians. When we see these marvelous characters stumble onto the freezing landscape, or tumble over the rocks on their way into the sea, we recall outlandish comedies from Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. They just crack us up! Then to see the contrast of their graceful motions underwater enthralls us all the more.

We love the way they're costumed. So many animals wear fancy suits to their gatherings, but still the prettypenguins seem to have won the award for the bestdressed guests.

Despite all their environmental and weather related difficulties, they seem happy. They're like dolphins to us, wearing an ever-present smile. It's as though we can feel their enthusiasm for living, and that inspires us.

Compellingcreatures. They're birds and they have feathers but they don't fly. They're shimmeringbirds that find their food through fishing. They live in an untolerable frozenland and don't seem to mind at all. They're clumsy and graceful both. What a conundrum!
