Penny Stock Risk And Reward

Risk and Reward. Investing in penny stocks is all about risk and reward. Penny stocks are probably the most volatile of all investing instruments available in the stock market where hitting a home run can be a one thousand percent gain in a short period of time. And this potential reward is what attracts investors and traders to penny stocks. Many times new or inexperienced investors and would be day traders dive into penny stocks only to have their trading account destroyed in a few weeks or months, simply because they failed to take the time to educate themselves about penny stocks.

Penny stocks trade at very inexpensive prices for a reason, mainly because the company has an idea and very little money. Seldom will a speculative company trading on the OTCBB or Pink Sheet stock exchanges make it to the larger and more lucrative stock exchanges. One reason is the penny stock exchange world is wrought with fraud and seedy characters. On the other hand there are diamonds in the rough and legitimate companies that are available to investors and traders, who can make a fortune if they do their homework and apply sound investment principles.

One requirement is acquiring a broker that allows for penny stock trading. Some brokers do not trade Pink Sheet stocks, whereas others will buy them for the client but will not allow the client to purchase the stock online and only allow the trade to be called in directly to the broker, which of course cost the client more money and can get very expensive.

Probably the most important of all requirements for investing and trading penny stocks is learning how to analyze and dig for information before investing in any penny stock company. One reason these companies trade as penny stock companies is the amount of information available about the company is limited. Penny stocks trading on the OTCBB and NASDAQ Small Cap exchanges are required to file the appropriate financial forms and statements required by the SEC to maintain their listing. However, Pink Sheet stocks do not have this requirement, therefore they are not transparent and information is limited at best. Caution is the order of the day when trading Pink Sheet stocks, but it should be mentioned that huge gains as well as losses can be expected in the Pink Sheet arena.

Volatile and unforgiving, penny stocks are not for the feint of heart or for anyone that is trading or investing with scared money. Trading with scared money or money that can not be afforded to be lost will almost always lead to losses. Research, a game plan and a little bit of luck are the requirements for successful penny stock trading and investing.
