Loving the Pentax K10 D Camera

Why the Pentax K10 D SLR Camera?

I've only had my new digital SLR camera a few days and I'm getting "the look" I was warned about. Yup. the big name camera fans check out my camera, give me a pitying glance and then protectively clutch their cameras a bit closer.

Then, they realize that I'm still out there shooting in a slight drizzle while they're cowering in the closest shelter with their gear wrapped up in layers of rain proof protection. On top of that, when the weather was nice, I seemed to be matching them shot for shot. And my camera looks surprisingly hefty.

And when the weather does break and I pull out my other gear? They get a look at my lenses. Whoa. Am I independently wealthy or something? What gives?

What gives is that I've got a Pentax. Weather resistance. In camera stabilization. On top of that, I've got the same features the big name companies put on a camera that costs over $1000. And backward lens compatibility. Do you know how many used SLR lenses I can buy for the price of one new big name camera lens? Well, I haven't spent enough on used lenses yet to equal one new big name lens. I'll let you know when I get there!

Pentax Vs Nikon

Does Nikon rule or are you a Pentax fan?

There's a reason Nikon is so well known. Nothing beats a Nikon.

Pentax might not be a big name, but these cameras are top of the line.

Pentax K10 D Versus Pentax K20 D

There's a newer version of the Pentax K10 D. The Pentax K20 D costs a few hundred more and offers some cool in camera effects and a live view function. I decided to go with the K10 D because I can get different effects with the filters and software I already have and I didn't think it made sense to pay more for the additional features. I'm not worried about getting the newest and the best because, at this point in camera technology, they really don't make you a better photographer. The newer mid-range digital SLRs are all going to help you get the shots you need once you improve your photography skills.

I am using the money I saved by buying the older model to take a class toward my photography degree. If you are new to serious photography or feel like you need to improve a bit in some areas, you might want to consider doing the same thing. If you do opt to buy the K20, though, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

A Pentax K-7 May Be in My Future

First, I have to say that I still absolutely love my K10D camera and will be keeping it as a back up body if I buy a new to me upgrade. Now, on to the reason for this update. I'm thinking about getting a Pentax K-7 because the K-5 coming out has put a lot of used K-7's on the market for a nice price and I would like something that is just a bit better at handling noise.
