Tears In my Gravy
Everything was turning out perfect until I made the gravy. There were huge lumps of flour in it that I could not get rid of no matter how much I stirred. I called my mom and she admitted that her gravy was often lumpy, that was why she used turkey gravy out of a can. I was shocked. I always thought she made it from scratch. This was Thanksgiving dinner. I had to make it from scratch.
I started to cry over my lumpy gravy thinking I was ruining what was a really good dinner. My husband came in and thought I was crazy. He didn't care that the gravy was lumpy, why should I? Well, it was too late to fix it so I served my lumpy gravy with the rest of the dinner. And what did the guys say? They said it was the best gravy they had ever had! I just shook my head and promised myself I would figure out how to make lump-free gravy.
Fast forward a few years. I still had lumpy gravy and was still searching for the answer when it came to me in the mail. Roth's grocery store sent out a flyer on how to cook a turkey. It had some other recipes too including one for gravy. I tried it out and ta-da, no lumps. I've been using this recipe ever since then and I get tons of complements on my gravy. It is thick and rich and has great turkey flavor. And I no longer cry over my gravy.
Giblets or No
My dad loves giblet pieces in his gravy. I never put them in. What do you think?

Lump-free Turkey Gravy
Complements of Roth's grocery store

- Serves: Makes 2 1/4 cups
- Prep Time: 15 min.
- Total Time: 15 min.
You might think I am cheating because the recipe calls for a turkey gravy mix, but I make this gravy myself so I think it is still from scratch. If you want perfect lump-free gravy try this recipe. It is very tasty.
Ingredients
- 1 pkg. Turkey Gravy MIx
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 tbsp. flour
- 1/2 cup turkey drippings
Instructions
1) Combine Turkey Gravy Mix and flour in a medium saucepan.
2) Using a whisk gradually stir in the water and turkey drippings.
3) Bring to a boil, stirring often.
4) Reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes or until thickened.
5) Pour into gravy boat and serve immediately.

- My dad made the absolutely positively best home made gravies. He was a cook and he was very good at it. Yummy. No lumps in his home made gravy. He beat the heck out of it.
