The Elements of Perfect Love

Ranked #1,851 in Relationships & Family, #216,110 overall

Is there any such thing?

Perfect love - just the sound of the phrase sends delightful shivers up my spine; it makes me close my eyes and smile. It conjures up wonderful thoughts and memories and removes any sense of dread and fear about the future.

Perfect love grants room for mistakes and failures. It forgives and no obstacle is insurmountable - given time and patience - because commitment is an on-going element in such a relationship.

I invite you to take a few moments to explore more about perfect love.

Perfect love believes that all things are possible.

It always looks forward...

In no person's life will every moment be one of sheer bliss - thank God. The same is true for relationships - thank God once again. Why? Because if every moment was pure bliss, it would become customary and expected. Attitudes of gratitude and thanksgiving would disappear and people would live life as shells of the people they were destined to become.

People complain about the rain because they want to see the sun; however, allow people to go through a dry season for a few months and see if there's a difference in their perceptions. Other people complain about the sun making the days too warm. However, allow the sun to disappear for a few weeks and see how dismal life becomes and how quickly hope fades.

The truth is that we need the bad days to appreciate the good. We need the memories of the good days to get us through the bad days that are sure to come. The human soul needs a reason to rejoice in order to sustain itself.

Perfect love

moves past the ills of yesterday, embraces today and believes in the possibilities of tomorrow.

A "Perfect Love" Relationship

What are the elements?

Feel free to vote for the element you feel is most important...or add your own.

Love is kind

Love is not mean-spirited. It seeks to help others and to make them feel better.2 points

Love doesn't think evil about others.

Instead, it tries to find the best in each person.2 points

Love bears, believes and endures.

Love bears anything, believes (because of hope) that things will improve and endures everything because of that same hope for improvement.2 points

Love accepts that suffering exists.

Though suffering does, and will, exist, love doesn't focus on how much suffering takes place. It accepts the good with the bad.1 point

Love is thankful

It doesn't wish to have what someone else has; love is content with what she has.1 point

Love doesn't boast or brag about itself.

It knows the truth and that's all that really matters.1 point

Love doesn't behave improperly.

It never seeks to better itself. Love knows it is best.1 point

Love isn't provoked to anger easily.

Love doesn't lash out in anger at loved ones; love prefers to resolve situations in a peaceful manner.1 point

Love walks away from sin

It rejoices only in being true.1 point

Love doesn't fail

When life is wonderful, love is there. When life is filled with heartache and pain, love continues to manifest itself. When physical life is approaching an end, love continues to blossom in the person's soul and travels with them to the grave. It never leaves; it never fails.1 point

Much excitement

and sweaty palms

Many people feel love is an emotion which makes them giddy with excitement. Their palms sweat at the sight of someone they love or their hearts pound in their chests. Some people believe they will always feel this way about a person they love, believing they will always have a reason to smile.

Well, love is more than an emotion; it is a commitment.

Perfect love touches every fiber of a person's being.

One can't live and breathe without the other; one is always aware of the other even in the subconscious mind.

What do you think?

Can perfect love exist between two people?

Of course!

adhd-bipolar-depression says:

Yes it can, but it will take time and commitment.

Kelsey-Budden-16 says:

Oh yeah! ;-) Without a doubt! It don't come easy but, when you have it, usually you will do anything to keep it. At least, that's the way I am! :-)

How 'bout you?

Norma_Budden says:

Yes, it can, but it doesn't come easily. It takes sacrifice, dedication, determination, compromise, commitment, a lot of forgiveness, a healthy dose of patience - but the results outweigh the cost.

I'm doubtful!

It's certainly an exciting world, though I did take time out today to sew a winter coat for my daughter...it's almost done, too.

Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

Amazon Price: $6.53 (as of 06/03/2012)Buy Now

God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love. Have you ever wondered if we're missing it? It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe-the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor-loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.

Whether you've verbalized it yet or not...we all know somethings wrong. Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts-it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.
