Creating the Perfect Blog
Blogging is a great asset to anyone in Internet marketing who has an interest in making money online. And, today, who couldn't use an extra source of income?
With hundreds of millions of Internet pages, it's far too easy to rush into a blog without proper planning. Let me ask you this? What are the most popular blog platforms? What is the most popular background color for a blog? What is the most used font for a blog? What is the most used way to make money with a blog? "I Blog, Therefore I Am" does not translate into I Blog, Therefore I Am Making Money.
What are the most popular topics for a blog? Do those topics reflect current trends among web surfers?
Okay, if you know the answers to all of those questions you can stop reading.

March 26, 2009 Update
This is so important I had to throw it in here at the top because it's not something you want to miss. You see, Jack Humphrey, the blogging and blog SEO guy, has just released another whopper - New Tricks to Make Money Blogging. It's a video you really want to see.
If you were around when he released the Authority Black Book and remember the entire web buzzing about it, well, this is going to be just like that!
Why he's giving away this trick, I don't know.
All I know is it's going to make a lot of people very happy that he is. You see, most bloggers aren't making a dime. They are loading their sites with ads, affiliate links, and even getting traffic. But making nothing or very little. And that's the #1 complaint most bloggers have - they just can't break the profit barrier with their blogs.
************************
Jack's on a mission to change that for thousands of people this year, starting with this video. Watch this pure content video and you'll immediately want to put it to work on your blog and cash in.
New Tricks to Make Money Blogging

If you're mystified by blogging or cannot figure out how these guys make money doing it, this video is going to open your eyes.
This is something no one has talked about and that Jack hasn't even shared fully with his mastermind group. Most of all, it's easy and quick to implement!

Facts About Blogs
Knowledge is Power
What are the most popular blog platforms?- Customized Blogs - 45%
- Movable Type - 15%
- Wordpress - 12%
- Typepad - 7%
- Blogger - 6%
- MySpace - 4%
- Other - 11%
Customized blogs and those hosted on Movable Type and Wordpress platforms offer the greatest customization - and, if you want to make money, customization is a big thing.
Okay, you and I are probably not going to create the perfect blog because anything that requires work is imperfect, right? But we can create a near perfect blog - with the right information about the right trends for the right niche with the right amount of traffic for the right product or service by using the right monetization methodologies and the right way to quickly add content and trackback links.
Kind of wears you out just thinking about it, doesn't it?
Do U C What I C?
How's Your Vision?
Look closely at this photo. What do you see?Do you see someone standing out from the crowd? Or, do you see someone trying to blend in with the crowd?
It's all a matter of perspective, isn't it? If this photo was taken at a dog show, you would certainly see someone standing out from the crowd. On the other hand, if it was taken at the beginning of a fox hunt, you'd see someone trying to blend in.
People visit blogs and, doggone it, they each come with their own perspective and expectations.
Blog Trends
Perspectives and Expectations
Boy, it would be great if our blog traffic looked like that graphic. I suppose that brings up another question: do you know how much traffic your blog is getting?Do you know how that traffic is finding your blog? Do you know how long that traffic is staying on your blog? Do you know what they click on to leave your blog? Hopefully that last click is one that makes money for you.
Here's the biggie: do you know what people are searching for on the Internet? After all, you can have a great blog about Red Widgets - but if everyone is searching for Blue Widgets, well, you know...
How do you spot trends? And, equally important, how do you know what you have spotted is not a fad? I would visit magazines.com and make a list of the top selling magazines. I would visit amazon.com and make lists of the top selling products. I would visit Clickbank and make a list of the top selling products. I would visit Google zeitgeist. I would spend $12 at Keyword Country and do a day's research.
I'd make a spreadsheet and match my research results. If something is hot and possibly, even, emerging as a trend, you can jump in with both feet. It doesn't need to last a lifetime; just long enough for you to make money while you're exploring other emerging niches.
Do you Blog for Money?
Your Perspective and Expectations
A great maxim of the publishing industry coming from editors is, "Write what you know." I had a college professor who said, "You can't teach what you don't know anymore than you can come from where you ain't been."
The Internet, though, is a great source of information for just about anything. You can learn what you don't know. You can probably even learn what you thought you knew. The professor was correct. You cannot teach what you don't know anymore than you can come from where you ain't been, but you can go there on the Internet! You can go there, get information and come back to teach what you learned to others.
Sometimes we need to rethink our own perspectives and expectations. It has never been more clear that change is happening all around the world. You and I are witnessing the collapse of business after business that was not prepared for change. I strongly encourage you to visit Who Stole My Cheese for a new perspective on change.
Do you know this word: Perkonomics? Essentially, it means providing perks as a way of increasing loyalty. What could be a perk about your Red Widget blog? People visiting your blog and finding tons of great content about red widgets would see that you have done all the web surfing for them. They don't need to spend endless hours tracking down websites, because you have already done it for them.
In turn, they will tell the members of their Red Widget Club, and you'll get even more traffic to your blog.
How do you monetize that traffic?

Blogging Information
Blog Monetization
Nickels, Dimes & Dollars
Monetization is a big word for making money from something. Simply stated, if I can state it more simply than that last sentence, monetization happens when someone gives you money for something you have in your possession that they would like to have in their possession. That something can be a product, service or knowledge.
The Number One monetization method for blogs is Google Adsense. 24% of blogs feature AdSense ads. Here's something I find quite interesting: 21% of blogs feature no advertising. Nada... no chance of generating income. The world's economic slump demands that you and I stimulate the economy by earning money with our left hand while we spend it with the right.
15% of blogs sell advertising space. Sure, we'd all like to do that but the fact is that advertising dollars will go to those blogs who establish themselves as an authority and can back it up with traffic statistics. Read those questions again back up in Blog Trends. To sell advertising space you must know your stats.
The previous module, Blogging Information, contains links to products on Amazon. Squidoo earns affiliate commissions when someone purchases one of those products and Squidoo, in turn, shares a bit of that commission with LensMasters. So, affiliate commissions are another way to monetize your blog.
Is this what the remaining 40% of bloggers are doing? Sadly, the statistics don't show that. We do know that 15% are promoting products or services through Google's affiliate program, 4% through Federated Media and 21% of survey responders saying Other.
However you choose to monetize your blog, you must have traffic. You may wish to look at this lens: Improving Web Traffic

For Serious Bloggers Only
There is a complete program available to people who are serious about making money blogging. And I'm not kidding when I say complete. After years of trying to reinvent the wheel, I found this little gem that works like a well-oiled machine. Well, it is a well-oiled machine when it comes to blogging.
Why doesn't everyone use it? It costs money. And, let's face it, the majority of people trying to make money on the Internet are trying to reinvent the wheel - just like I did. They're trying to build a business at no cost. They believe those people who say, "I spent no money and only 15 minutes time and made $26,000 gadzillion dollars yesterday morning - before I got out of bed!"
Trust me on this. Few people make a lot of money before they get out of bed, and they mostly live in Nevada or Amsterdam if they do it legally. The rest of us will put in a lot of work, not to say that those folks don't. But we're going for legal business here, and the best way to do that is follow a plan developed by experts that includes everything you need - except motivation.
If you have the motivation to put in the research, the time, and the sweat equity involved in developing a successful money-making blog, you owe it to yourself to check out the Blog Success program.
