There are some easy steps that you can take and insist that your hairdresser takes in order to deliver on that promise. The search begins....

The first thing you need to do is find a few hairdressers that you are drawn to. There are so many ways to find a hairdresser now it is almost a challenge to find one just because there are too many options. One of the best ways to find a great hairdresser is ask people who did their hair. (assuming you like it!) You will find hairdressers that have the skill to pull off what you are looking for that way. Then ask the person how they like their hairdresser. Personality is one of the most important aspects of your hairdressing experience.
Another way to find your next stylist is by searching on the web. There are so many websites that lead people to salons and hairdressers that you will be able to search for just the right stylists. Remember search engines use keywords so when you search decide what is most important to you. Try your city or zip and add in a brand of hair products you like and the services you are looking for. For our salon you might find us by typing in Burbank KMS California Haircare Salon.
Once you find the salon read the stylist bios, check their service menu and you may even want to just give them a call and see how you feel after speaking with them.
Many hair salons are constantly trying to bring in new business and will participate in community events so look for a booth at your local street fair or bridal show and will get to meet some of the stylists face to face and really get a feel for if it is a good fit.
As a hairdresser, I am always passing out my card to people that I would want as clients. Some of my best clients are people who I met at parties or shopping or even waiters/service providers. If they give me the type of service I expect, I know they will enjoy the service that I provide.

Consultation

Now you have found your hairdresser - 'let's talk'

The consultation is one of the most important steps to make sure that both you and your hairdresser are on the same wavelength when it comes to your hair. Each hairdresser will have their own style for this process. Some will say, ' what do you want' and then get started. Some will talk with you for 1/2 an hour about the color red. This is like your first date in a way. Within the first 5 minutes you will know if you will 'click' with this stylist or not. Make sure you come prepared with any questions you may have.
Some suggested questions for your stylist:
How comfortable are you doing this service?
How long will it take?
What is the price? Are there any other costs?
How long will this last? When should I come in for my next service?
What products should I take home with me to maintain this look?

Some questions they may ask you:
Have you had any chemical services on your hair?
Do you have any sensitivities to haircolor or any other chemicals? If you have no experience with haircolor you may want to ask for a hyper-sensitivity patch test to ensure that you are not allergic to haircolor. This test should happen 48 hours prior to your haircolor service.
How much time do you spend on your hair?
What at home products are you using?
What challenges are you having with your hair?

At this point your hairdresser will probably analyse your hair to find out your natural haircolor, existing color, texture, amount of grey/white hair you may have and any scalp issues that you may have.

This point helps the hairdresser get from where you are to where you want to be.

They will also look at your skin and eye color, make-up color pallette, and wardrobe choices.

Your stylist will most likely ask you for what type of service you are looking for, color, highlights, shape of the cut etc.

Once the stylist has made their recommendation about how to move forward make sure you are both in agreement. This is not the time to be distracted by your iPhone, a magazine, or chatting with your neighbor. Look in each other's eyes and make your agreement. 'Let's do it!'
