Creating Your Perfect Moment

You've been waiting for this moment to come, possibly since you were a little girl. When that day arrives, it will be but a brief moment in time and the beginning of a new chapter in your life. The memories created will last a lifetime.

With your big day coming up that is much planning to do. One of the most important and expected things would be the cake and you want it to be perfect. How on earth do you find the right cake for you and your guests that will leave people talking about it for years to come?

Everyone is looking for a special cake to highlight their unique style and creativity, I will help to make finding the perfect wedding cake for you a little easier and less stressful.

Cutting The First Slice

Consider the traditional cake cutting ceremony. Cutting the first slice is the new couple's first task done together as husband and wife. As they feed each other the first bite, their commitment to each other is symbolized. Whether or not they smear the cake into each others face is optional and probably depends on how good their sense of humor is.

Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect wedding cake, to create your perfect moments.

Cutting The Wedding Cake

Research

Research before you shop. Spend time online looking at cake designs or visit local bakeries to get ideas of how you want your cake to look. Take pictures of cakes and compare them later. Browse through the latest bridal magazines, and wedding books. Ask around, ask friends, family, and coworkers if they have any suggestions on where to get your wedding cake.

Collect Your Ideas

Select a style of wedding cake. If you found a style while researching that you like for example on a website, print a picture, or in a magazine tear the page out and keep this in your wedding binder for later reference. Or be creative and combine two harmonious styles to make something new and different. You can also style the cake around an interest you share with your spouse. For example, if you're both avid tennis buffs, ask your baker to customize your cake with a marzipan net, paddle and tennis balls.

For The Yummy Part

Start by setting aside some time to plan outings to bakeries for cake tastings. Make sure though that you schedule appointments for these cake tastings. Taste numerous flavors of cakes. Haven an idea of what you and the majority of your guest may enjoy the most. Some couples choose to use a couple of different flavors of cake within the tiers of their final product. Decide which works best for you and also which tastes the best! Do nut just settle on the first slice you eat. Make sure you keep track of what you liked where and why.

This also goes along with the cake icings as well. There are many different types to choose from. You want your guests to enjoy what they are eating, after all, it isn't just any cake, it's YOUR WEDDING CAKE.

Be Observant

When arriving at various bakeries check out all details of the place. Notice all details such as how the workers handle other customers, cleanliness within the workplace. You want to make sure that the bakery you choose presents itself in a professional manner and will be willing to work with you closely.

Decide What Type Of Cake

Decide which cake design best represents you and your soon to be spouse. Some couples choose elegant designs with flowers and lace, while others choose more outrageous designs that may reflect them comically. Will you want the cake to match a theme of any sort?

Never just settle on a cake, as it is the main feature on your special day and something to be remembered. Do not be afraid to get creative or take suggestions from outside sources.

Don't Forget The Ingredients

Select the ingredients of your wedding cake. There are many combinations of icing and cake, including vegan and carrot cake. You don't have to stick to the mainstream here, either. Go with what you like, it is your day. A cake layered with jelly beans or some favorite treat might suit your tastes.

Choose Your Bakery

When it comes to choosing the bakery to go with make sure all of your questions are answered ahead of time. Make sure that you show them pictures of what you would like your cake to look like if you have them, and make sure they will not have any problems replicating the design.

Make sure that you ask to see pictures of similar designs and other cakes that they have done, this will help you to decide if they can create your masterpiece. If they do not have pictures of previous cake designs, you may want to think about going somewhere else.

What's Your Cake Size?

How do you decide what the size of your cake should be? Well, you need to know the number of guests before you can decide what size to go with. After all, you want to make sure that there is enough to go around for everybody.

Pin Down Delivery Time

Pin down the delivery time. How much lead time does your bakery need to ensure the cake will be ready for your wedding? Some bakeries may not deliver, if so, arrange for a delivery service.

Have all costs figured out and agreed upon in advance, including any delivery fees.

Most Importantly

Have fun and make memories. This is an important piece to your wedding planning and you will want to remember this time! Do not become overly stressed while planning. Relax! This is the fun and tasty part!

Life Size Wedding Cake

Unique Wedding Cake

For one bride, her perfect wedding had to have that extra layer. So Chidi Ogbuta had a life size wedding cake made in her own image.

Standing over 5 feet tall, this spectacular cake was made up of butterscotch and polymer clay and was an exact replica of the bride in her wedding dress.

The six layered masterpiece was a dream come true for the Texan. It took five weeks to make the cake. The cake itself was butterscotch and the body, head and arms were made from polymer clay.

Tips and Warnings!

  • Do not wait until the last second to find a cake. Too short of a notice sometimes doesn't yield the best of results when it comes to bakeries and time is an important aspect. You want the cake to be something special. Take your time and figure out what is best for you and your other half.

  • Never be afraid to bring photographs of ides for wedding cakes

  • Another good place to try cake could be bridal shows, lots of bakers come to showcase their cakes and let you try them there on the spot.

  • BE PREPARED TO EAT CAKE
