Introduction to Perfect World

Perfect World is a MMORPG, that is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. This means you play the game online and interact with other real people all over the world. This game has excellent graphics, awesome character creation, interesting quests, dungeons, arena fighting.....just generally everything that you get with online games that charge you a fee every month, for the privilege of playing, like World of Warcraft or Age of Conan.....and it's totally free to play.

Perfect World is set in the world of Pangu where three major tribes, Humans, Winged Elves and the Untamed coexist. It is a world of magic and fantasy, where your characters can change into animals, or fly through the air with wings. Fight huge dragons and monsters ! Take up a profession to make clothing, jewelery, potions, or weapons. Do quests and explore a huge, gorgeous landscape with many villages and cities, incluing a city that floats among the clouds ! 105 levels gives you plenty of time to explore and see every part of this awesome game. This MMOG, is not one you want to miss !

The History of Pangu

How the World Came To Be

There once was an immortal god who was all alone in the universe. He was lonely and wanted subjects to rule over, so he created the world of Pangu and put the first life forms on this world. These life forms were barbaric and corrupt however and often tried to destroy each other.

This dissappointed the god, so he decided to create a city in the air and put a few beings in this city that were not yet corrupt, and destroy the rest. He did so with a giant flood that killed every life form on Pangu. The god took the three most precious parts of him and made Humans, Wing Elves, and the Untamed. The god vowed never to meddle in the affairs of these beings again, and let them solve their own disputes. The Humans and Wing Elves soon found the great city in the sky, and a war erupted over who would control it. The Untamed stayed neutral in this war, for they were happy without the city.

As this was going on, the life forms thought to be dead from the great flood came back into the world. They were not quite living, and not quite dead. Their only goal was to bring chaos and destruction into the world, and they became known as wraiths. The three races knew they must band together and stop this evil force before it destroys their world.

Races and Classes

A Short Introduction

In Perfect World, there are three races. They are the Humans, Wing Elves, and the Untamed. (formerly called Beastkind) Each race has two classes and each class plays differently. You can personalize and customize your character to an amazingly exacting degree. You can change anything and everything about your character's appearance.....eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrowns, skin color, hair style and color, lip color, eyeshadow color, body shape, the list goes on and on. You can make your character look extremely beautiful, extremely ugly, or make it look exactly like you.

Movement and Combat

Perfect World is very much like World of Warcraft, in how you move your character around. The w,a,s,d keys and the mouse guide movement or you can point and click.

The entire skill tree, to level 105, is found by hitting the R key. You may not have enough skill points to buy every skill, so choose wisely. You can also create a one click button that will do a combination of skills in a specific order. At the bottom right of this screen you can click on "Skill Tree" to look at all your skills, what level you will acquire these skills, and what levels they will upgrade.

Leveling

The fastest way to level your character is to do quests. Quests will give you a the most exp and will level you much faster than grinding. Your experience bar is shown as a percentage, but you can mouse over it to see exactly how much exp you have, and how much you need. There are 105 levels in Perfect World.

Genies

New to the Game May 12, 2009 !

Genies are non-corporeal entities that players can get to help their character in many ways, not the least of which is buffs and debuffs. Genies have their own abilities and they must be leveled up, for maximum benefit. Below is information on obtaining and leveling your Genie.

You can get a Genie in one of three ways:

1. Via Quest from the Watcher of the Earth. Location near the Elder of every major city.
2. Via Production with the Watcher of the Earth.
3. Via Trade from other players.

There are four different kinds of Genies, identified by the seasons:

Longevity (Summer),
Discipline (Winter),
Zeal (Autumn),
Infliction (Spring).

Your genie will have one skill when you get them, but future skills must be gotten by leveling them and feeding them. The Skills that they can have are as follows:

Strength - STR: Determine damage out put of skills
Dexterity - DEX: Determine effect of skills -duration
Vitality - VIT: MP pool
Intellect - INT: MP Recovery and the skills learnable (each 50 INT = +1 MP recovery)

In order to use these skills, it costs stamina, which requires Chi Stones which you get from decomposing player equipment to fill it's stamina bar, which is used up whenever you use one of the genies skills. Other than that genies do not require any kind of food. So it will cost you to use your Genie.....but how you choose their skill will aid you in battle, each in a different way:

STR: Will give you more damaging (and perhaps healing) skills
DEX: Will give you more durational skills
VIT: Will allow you to use more expensive (and powerful) skills, as well as chaining them together
INT: Will allow you to use skills more frequently, and with more variety

Lucky points add extra attribute points to your genie. Genies receive 1 point per level and every 10 levels receive a bonus of up to 10 lucky points. So if you are lucky, you could double your points.

Every 10 levels your genie gets luck points, 1-10. The more your genie gets the more rare it is. If I had a level 80 genie and its points where 80/80 that's extermely rare. You can also tell by pressing bar hovering over your genie
The higher the random stats determine not only the look of your genie but the combat ability as well as rareness. It can be classified as follow:

Orange - This color indicates this genie gained 10 random stats per every 10 level. (extremely rare)
Gold - This color indicates this genie gained random stats between 61 - 99 points. (rare)
Purple - This color indicates this genie gained random stats between 51- 60 points. (uncommon)
Blue - This color indicates this genie gained random stats between 41- 50 points. (less common)
Green - This color indicates this genie gained random stats between 10 - 40 points. (common)

Genies can level up along with their masters. In addition to increasing their base stats, players can upgrade a Genie's elemental affinity, with any of the five elements: Metal, Wood, Earth, Water andFire. The elemental affinity will become important because different affinities will be the key to unlocking certain skills. Genies can have a maximum of 26 affinity points. If need be, a player can reset the Genie's affinity points at the new NPC "Elemental Ambassador" in any of the five main cities. It needs to be noted that some earth skills can be used only while on the ground, many water skills can only be used in water and some metal skills can only be used while in flight. Additionally, some skills are race specific- Hollow Fist is reserved for Venomancers only, or the skill Rainbow Blessing is only for Winged Elves. Like character skills, genie skills have levels. Sometimes you cannot open a skill without having a chain of others open first.

There are three ways of leveling your Genie:

-Using EXP stone.
-Using Character EXP
-Using Character SP, 1SP = 5 EXP points.

To level your genie skills, please see the new NPC.

You can equip your genie. Players can buy equipment for their Genies from the NPC Watcher of the Earth. Genie Equipment includes Jades, Mirrors, Orbs, and Charms. Unfortunately, the cost of these items are one and three million coins and once equipped, they cannot be unequipped, only replaced.

Affinity Points are somewhat different then attribute points, Affinity Points give you the option of placing elemental affinities: Earth, Water, Fire, Wood, Water and Metal. Where you place these points will determine what skills your genie can get. The higher the affinity points needed for a skill, the stronger that skill is going to be.

Genies start with 1 Affinity Point, and will gain an additional Affinity Point every 5 levels. When a Genie reaches Level 100, it will gain 1 Affinity Point every level. Genies can attain a maximum of 26Affinity Points. There are 5 types of Affinities: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. The number of points required to master an Affinity is 8."

Genies can be traded with other players after they have been converted into TRADE READY state. Click the Trade State button in the Genieinterface menu in order to access this feature. It will take 7 days toconvert your Genie into to TRADE READY state. By default, a Genie isset to NO-Trade state. In this state, the Genie cannot be traded, sold,or discarded.

Mounts

At level 30 you can get a flying mount. To get it, you must do a quest and pay 30,000 gold. This first mount is not the fastest, and if you want faster and different looking mounts you must buy them in the Item Mall.
There are monsters in the skies that you can fight while flying.

At level 40 you can get a ground mount. These mounts are faster than the flying mounts. There are two mounts you can buy with in-game money, a black and a white horse. This will cost you 2,400,000 gold. You can also buy faster and different kinds of mounts in the Item Mall, and you can also get upgrades to make your mount faster.

For more information on using the Item Mall, in game, see our lens How to use the Item Mall in Perfect World

Inventory and Banks

Every town has a banker. When you first create your charcter, you only have 16 bank slots, though you can do quests to upgrade it and make it bigger, or buy bank expansions from the Item Mall. You have a decently sized bag when you first start the game, but in order to upgrade it to have more slots, you must buy an inventory extension stone from the Item Mall.

Money

Cubigold and In-Game Money

Cubigold and Item mall - In the game there is a shop called the "Item Mall". You can access this shop anywhere in the game by hitting the O key. This shop takes a different kind of currency than game money; it only takes "Cubi-gold". You have to buy Cubi-gold with real life money in order to get it. Once you have Cubi-gold, you can buy the really cool stuff from the Item Mall that you can't get in the game with in game money or quests.

For for a full guide on Cubigold, visit our lens on How to Buy Cubigold

Perfect World International does not use Cubigold, it uses an in game currency called Zen. Zen is only available through the Perfect World website. One Zen costs one US dollar.

For a full guide on the Item Mall visit our lens on How to Use the Item Mall

In Game Money - The in-game money is very different than in games like World of Warcraft. The only currency is gold. It's not unusual to pay 3000 gold to repair your items or 1000 gold to teleport from one city to another. This may seem like a lot of money, but you can also make a lot of money in the game by selling things to other players. None of the items in Perfect World are soulbound. So once you outgrow an item, you can sell it to another player for money. Selling materials can also give you a lot of money. Most people make their money by selling their goods at their own private Stalls.

Stalls - these are private shops that any player can set up to sell things to anyone that wants to buy them for the listed price. You can also set up your stall to buy specific things from people, if they want to sell them to you for the price you specify.

You must stay online while your stall is up, and you cannot move or do anything while it is up. The best thing to do is to set it up before you go to bed or any times you are going to be away from your computer for a few hours. It will mind itself, you don't need to be there for items to be bought or sold.

Auction House - Perfect World does have an Auction House, but it is rather difficult to use, and to find things. Auctioneers can be found in major cities.

Professions

There are four professions in Perfect World, and you can learn them all. There is Blacksmithing, which lets you make weapons, Tailoring, which lets you make armor, Pharmacy (apothecary), which lets you make potions, and Jewelry (craftsman), which lets you make necklaces and such. Each one of these professions requires different materials that you can gather out in the world. To gather these things, you must buy a shovel from a Merchandiser (price $2000 gold). A shovel gathers all materials for all professions.

PVP, PK and Territory Wars

Territory Wars - Guilds can partake in "Territory Wars." The world map is split into zones and guilds can own them. Once a week, your guild can challenge (for a price in gold) the current owner of a territory to War. The winner gets to keep the territory under their guild name. The goal is to obtain all the zones under your guild name, your Guild Master will become the King or Queen of Perfect World.

PK - PK stands for Player Kill, obviously this is when one player kills another. PVP is not allowed in Perfect World, under level 30. Once you are level 30, you can be attacked and killed by anyone in the world that is your level or above. When you attack and kill someone, your name (over your character) will change colors. The colors are pink, light red, red, and dark red. You get a pink name for attacking someone with a white name. You get a light red name for killing 0-2 people. You get a red name for killing 2-10 people, and a dark red name for killing 10+ people. If your name is Red or Dark Red, you are considered a murderer and many times, you will be considered KOS (kill on site) and everywhere you go, people will try to kill you. People will even report your location in general chat, so more people can come track you down to kill you.

The change in color in your name is not permanent, it will go back to normal, if you refrain from PKing. However, the more people you kill, the longer it takes for your name to turnback to white. When your name is a one of the varying shades of red, people with white names can attack you without any penalties, or changes in the color of their own name.

If you are PKing and you die, items that you are wearing or are in your backpack can drop off onto the ground, and anyone can pick them up. When you die, the darker color your name is, the more items you are liable to drop. If your name is in white and you are killed by someone, you do not lose any items, and your name stays white.

Dungeons

Dungeons are called FB in Perfect World. There is a dungeon for every 10 levels, starting at level 19, and ending at level 89. You can go into these dungeons even if you are past the level required for the dungeon. These dungeons have very strong monsters in them, and require a group to successfully complete.
