5. Check there are no underground utilities.


6. A few building tasks require an additional pair of hands. Check someone is willing to help.


7. Only use treated wood. Pine is inexpensive. Western Redwood or Cedar are good choices.


8. And last but not least, buy the pergola plans in the exact size you require.
