Persian rugs can be sorted out into Persian City Rugs and Persian Tribal Rugs. From each type within these two is commonly named after the city or tribal name in which it's fabricated and designed. These are a few of the most favorite Persian rugs (the 1st four fall into Persian City Rugs):

Afshar Rugs: These are smaller carpets usually fabricated with a geometric form. Multiple plugged in medallions in diamond form, complete gul farangi (roses), botehs, and chicken-like themes (Afshar-e-Morghi) are the standard designs. Colorations range from dark cherry-red, burnt sienna, brown, dark violet, dark blue, burnt orange, ochre, and camel. The basis is frequently wool, but cotton base may also be used in some carpets.



Tabriz rugs: almost all the designs are curved though geometric are also found. The symmetrical (Turkish) knot is popular with a lot of colors used in one rug, and very different in palette. The average background and border colors applied in this design are pinkish, peach, camel, ecru, and ivory. The general look of Tabriz rugs is light-colored. Motifs may get in an assortment of colors specified blue, green, yellow, orange, and lilac. The basis is generally silk and wool pile with silk highlightings.



Kashan Rugs: About ninety-five procent of the Kashan rugs figure is curvilinear. An long diamond-shaped and lobed medallion with flowered pendants is a popular orthodox design. This design generally has a dark blue medallion with similar corners and edges in a reddish background or vise versa. Vase, hunting and pictorial are also very favourite. The common background Kashan carpet colors are navy, rich red, beige and ivory. Other colorations specified as red, blue, turquoise, ocher, beige, white, brown and from time to time green are applied for the designs.



Kerman Rugs: These are also generally curved in pattern. They're famed for Kerman pictorials which fall into the pictorial class of pattern. Conventional Kerman designs include a complete floral, boteh, stripes, paneled garden, prayer, vase, garden, hunting, animate being, and pictorials using both Persian and European motifs etc. Current variants consist of Aubussons or Koran (Quran) medallion-and-corners on an open field. Plentiful red, red-blue, lime greens, pink, ivory, gray-blue, aqua, orange, champagne and beige are a few of the colorations generally used.



Baluch Rugs: These rugs are hand-loomed by the nomadic folks of the Baluch tribe in southerly Iran, following an old Persian custom, going back to 2500 years. The design is unique on an overall figure, with plentiful burgundy with some dark blue and ivory as the primary colors.



Shiraz Rugs: hand-loomed rugs made in Shiraz, Central Persia, simply finished crudely done with the pile cut long with general colour scheme. Nonrepresentational motifs, little animals or floras are generally used in the designs with selvedges done with a barber-pole effect using two colors. Red is the primary coloring used.
