Why is it important to Check Your Credit Score?

Actually, there's a few reasons...

This one will only cost you just over $5 as an "activation fee", but that's about as cheap as you'll be able to get a "Free" Credit Report, which is called "Free" because all of these providers include it as a bonus to their reporting subscriptions.

The nice thing about Your Free Credit Report Online is that you can simply access your credit report, with a full 7 days of "trial period" to cancel your subscription before getting dinged with your first monthly payment.

This way, a complete credit report can only actually cost you the price of the activation fee ($5 or so).

You can try searching for an ACTUAL free report if you want, but you won't find one. They ALL have some sort of catch. Your Free Credit Report is the best deal going because of their trial period, which most others don't have.

However - it's not a bad idea to subscribe to an automatic monitoring service, which is what you'll be subscribing to unless you cancel within 7 days. This also includes $25,000 of protection (insurance) in the event of identity theft as well, which might come in handy (but hopefully it won't have to).

The other advantage to subscribing is that Your Free Credit Report will also advocate for you in the event of fraudulent activity AND inaccuracies.

(That could be a life-saver, potentially).

At any rate, don't make the mistake of thinking that "it won't happen to you" - or that it doesn't matter. Failing to check and monitor your credit report could be a VERY costly mistake in the long run.
