SMART goals are the way to go! Here's to 2012, I'm doing my goal setting for the year now instead of waiting for the first of the year to panic!
  • ajgodinho Dec 20, 2011 @ 12:23 pm | delete
Yeah, that's a great you're going to set you goals well in advance. Setting my 2011 goals really helped me and I have pretty much set my goals for 2012, just need to update this lens now. Wishing you all the best as you strive to achieve your 2012 goals!

Oh my, 2011 has flown by in a sense and I'm thinking about what I want to achieve in 2012. It's been a very different set of goals for me, over the past two years. When you contemplate a huge life change, you've got to be realistic about your life goals. I'm hoping to level off in 2012. Next, a single's ad perhaps. ;)

LOL, I agree, 2011 has flown by way too quickly. Barely keeping up with my goals. I think I'll be able to accomplish most of mine, but I'm running out of time. Time to think about 2012 now and hope it's a fabulous one for you! :)

You're doing great with your goals. I don't set too many goals, but did set one for this year and that is to self-publish a chapbook of my poetry. Slowly, but surely, working on that goal.
  • ajgodinho Jun 20, 2011 @ 10:41 am | delete
All the best with your goals, Ruthi! I have fallen behind on my Squidoo lens-building goal, but it does help keep track so it's easy to catch up.

I agree with the fact that you have to set a timeline for your goals otherwise they never get accomplished. Nice lens AJ
  • ajgodinho Apr 1, 2011 @ 3:41 pm | delete
Yeah, setting timelines is key because it helps measure progress and more importantly get there. Thanks for stopping by!

Let's get focused on our goals! If you want to be successful, find what you want - and love it - and love the process of achieving it! Brilliant lens. Lensrolled it to my 3-step plan to achieve your Goals and New Years Resolutions lens. Blessings! Sundae ;-)

Well said my dear ~ I enjoyed your thorough Goals lens as well and it's already lensrolled to mine. All the best as you work towards achieving your 2011 goals...blessings to you too! :)
  • Norma_Budden Jan 24, 2011 @ 12:23 am | delete
Wow! I was just browsing through this lens in my attempt to lensroll it to my own. We actually use one of the same quotes, only I show it on a poster. LOL. Captcha word is connector.

I haven't actually written my goals down, I have a few and they are what I work toward everyday. When I attain one goal, I move the marker forward and reach higher. Its working for me, and is what gives me drive to accomplish task. ~ This is a very well thought out and designed AJ, ~ Bless your big heart, and may your goals become realities.
  • ajgodinho Jan 23, 2011 @ 6:53 pm | delete
You seem to be very focused because you have your goals in front of you everyday (so to speak) and you tackle them one at a time slowly but surely moving in the right direction and higher. Wishing you the best you continue that journey and thanks for your kind words and good wishes as always...bless you! :)

I created a lens to highlight my goals for 2011 - Dreams and Goals for 2011. I must admit that it was, in part, to make myself accountable to someone. Since they were my goals, it seemed only fitting that I would be held accountable to myself. :)

However, since creating the lens, I am discovering additional goals that I hope to achieve...but I'm taking it slowly - noting ideas at this point - because I don't want to set the bar too high.

One of my main goals is to further develop my poetry site, Norma's Poetry. I've set my task to have 50 poems added to the site by February 21, broken down into mini goals of posting 10 poems each week.

I know I can attain that; I just need to take a few paces away from Squidoo - just a couple of hours, or so, each week ... but it will be worth it when I look myself in the mirror and don't see a critic. :)
  • ajgodinho Jan 15, 2011 @ 9:42 am | delete
I really enjoyed your 2011 goals lens, it's very uniquely presented. Settings goals in this fashion definitely brings about accountability. I agree, goals should be realistic and enough to stretch you, but not set so high that they are unachievable. Thanks for sharing your poetry writing goal. I checked your poetry website and love your poetry. I'll be back to read some more. All the best with your goals for 2011!

Hi AJ, you must have heard me thinking about you the other day, I was saying I was due to visit your lenses soon, I hadn't been by lately LOL So here I am! You know, I should have read this first before I did my goals, you have written this down perfectly, and I'm not surprised, and especially for people like me who totally struggle with this. I am going to re-read this several times and then think I should redo my own goals! Have a great weekend, Kathy
  • ajgodinho Jan 14, 2011 @ 6:37 pm | delete
Hi Kathy! Always good to see you around - LOL yeah, I did hear you thinking about me! In terms of goals, yeah, it does help to set specifics so as to easily track them. You can use this SMART Goals Template to help you redo your goals, if you wish to. All the best and great weekend too! :)
  • pkmcr Jan 14, 2011 @ 3:55 pm | delete
This is absolutely excellent and so well presented - would be a great lens to share as widely as possible to show how to take a structured and dare I say SMART approach to goal setting :-)
  • ajgodinho Jan 14, 2011 @ 6:24 pm | delete
Thanks Paul...it was a refresher for me as well because I've used this approach in the corporate world. I enjoyed making this lens and setting my goals. Now for the best part...achieving them! :)
  • lasertek Jan 14, 2011 @ 5:37 am | delete
I do set goals but most of the time I'm not able to do it because some thing comes up that seems better to do.
  • ajgodinho Jan 14, 2011 @ 6:22 pm | delete
Yeah, I know it can be a challenge to keep the commitment. Some of the things to keep in mind when setting goals is to choose relevant goals that you have a passion for. Keep them realistic so they can be achieved, but at the same time that will stretch you. Keep yourself connected with other individuals who are working on similar goals and more keep track of them. It's not easy, but it's possible and you have to have fun with it! Hope this helps! :)
