When it comes to the reproductive health or aspects of a man or a woman, many refuse to talk about these issues and even hesitate to talk about it. However, being open-minded and alert on matters of personal sexual health does not only give you good health for yourself but your partner as well.

It is important that one will be honest and confident with regards to being open with one's sexual health. This is for the reason that being honest and factual would help you and the medical specialist in determining the root cause of the problem.

STD 

Sexually Transmitted Disease

Sexually Transmitted Disease or STD can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, through the vagina, the oral and anal sex. Moreover, this can also be transmitted through childbirth and breastfeeding.

A person infected with STD can manifest symptoms at an early stage while some may have been seen with delayed symptoms. Blood transfusion and use of needles of the infected person may also transmit the disease.

STD has a broad range of definition and often interchange with STI. Later in the topic, a thorough comparison will be discussed.

Personal Sexual Health: Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI, STD) caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. It is one of the most common sexually acquired bacterial infections.

Chlamydia is tagged to be a silent sexual health problem. This is for the reason that only half of the infected men of 25% of the infected women show the symptoms. Moreover, symptoms show most often long after the infection timed at 4 weeks or more.

While this may be treatable, Chlamydia can lead to serious infection including infertility.

AIDS 

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

AIDS is commonly associated with the HIV Virus. However,
AIDS is more clearly defined as a set of symptoms and infections that is caused by the damaged to the human immune system.


AIDS is transmissible through vaginal, anal and oral sex. Moreover, infected needles, blood transfusion and breast feeding of an infected mother are also other means to spread the disease.

Personal Sexual Health: Genital Warts 

Genital warts are skin lesions or growths that occur on male or female genitalia as a result of a viral infection, called the Human Papilloma virus.

Genital warts infection is extremely common thought the vast majority of the population are not aware of the infection. The infection which is often silent becomes a problem when warts appear or cause abnormal precancerous cells on the neck of the womb (cervix) in a woman.

Warts can be of various sizes form miniscule to massive. They can be silent without symptoms or very troublesome with irritation, discharge, bleeding or discomfort.

Gonorrhea 

Gonorrhea is a disease transmitted sexually and is caused by bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This ranks second to chlamydia.
Gonorrhea is transmissible via penis, the vagina, mouth or the anus. This spreads easily and does not need ejaculation to manifest the infection.

This personal sexual health problem is one of the most common infection and can be treated. However, treatment does not guarantee shield from another gonorrhea infection after the treatment.

Symptoms of Gonorrhea for men are burning sensation when urinating, or a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis. Sometimes men with gonorrhea get painful or swollen testicles. However. most often infected men and women shows no symptoms and sometimes mistaken for urinal infection.

It is better that you have regular sexual health consultation with your doctor so as to take care of your health.

Genital herpes 

Genital Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) or type 2 (HSV-2). Most genital herpes is caused by HSV-2.

Genital herpes manifests its symptoms two weeks after the infection. Herpes sores most often heal two to four weeks. Sometimes a second crop of sores, and flu-like symptoms, including fever and swollen glands can also show.

Personal Sexual Health: Genital Thrush 

Vaginal or vulvo-vaginal thrush or Candidiasis is caused by a fungal infection commonly called Candida Albicans. This fungus is everywhere on the body (in the mouth, bowel, vagina and penis) and usually does not lead to any problems. In circumstances that lead to an imbalance of the various organisms in the body, the Candida fungus can be overgrow and cause symptoms.

Pubic Lice

Pubic lice are one of the many varieties of lice (singular "louse") specialized to live on different areas of different animals. As the name implies, pubic lice are specialized to live in the human pubic hair, but may also live in hair on other areas of the body such as hair on the legs, armpit, mustache, beard, eyebrows, and eyelashes. Infestations of young children are usually on the eyebrows or eyelashes. Lice found on the head are not pubic lice; they are head lice.
